  • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to let you know that we have changed the chassis nr. for Gene Bussian in two races from 550A-0134 to 550A-0139 in the database and added it to the Errata:

      • Hi Steve,

You have Joe Sheppard's 550A as 550A-0136. I believe it is 550A-0144. He had a distintive addition to his body work on one of his carbie doors which is only found on this car

        • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to Mr. Le Friant's comment about the 904-005 Victory at 1964 Targa Florio. We have not forgotten this critical Porsche race.#24720

After considerable research we found only one source (Gunnar Racing) that identifies 904-006 as the winner. We have compared the cars in detail and are convinced that the book is correct: 904-005 was the 1964 Targa Florio winner. With this decision, we defer to the most contemporaneous source, the factory race sheets which were produced after the race in order to show results.

          • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to confirm that Andrew is correct:

We agree that on page 679 - Herbert Swan raced 550-0024 at 24 June 1961 Mosport Player's 200.

Thank you Andrew for catching my omission.

            • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to Andrew's comment that Charles Wallace may have been driving Marshall's 550A (which is currently unidentified). Andrew also comments that Wallace's Miami races line up with Roy Schechter's car. We think that is possible, but there are complications with Schechter's and Sheppard's cars that we need to review carefully.

At the moment, we have shifted Wallace's Miami races (listed in the book as 550-0054) in the database to 550-0068 (in red font) since we are not certain. In other words we have shifted all the races that we can attribute to the ex-Marshall car to 550-0068 until we have more definite information.

              Thank you for your patience.

                Two questions

-> Do these tiny hoops protect the driver's head? The head is much higher than the hoop
-> Do the aero covers make much difference? Kind of reminds me of a cyclists aero helmet which have no changed back, because of wind tunnel results, not having a long tail!

                  • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to start responding to Mr. McCarthy's comments on the Holbert cars.

Mr. McCarthy's first request asks for additional information that confirms or denies that Holbert's first car was 550A-0123 (which is listed in red font since we are not certain). We have one alternative chassis nr. for the Holbert car - 550A-0124. If either of these two chassis nrs. trigger any information about Holbert or other owners of 550A-0123 or 0124, by all means let us know. We will be very grateful.

As you can see from the photo it is the same car including the leather straps on the hood.

                        • Similar to 550-0073, 0144 also went through the process of drilling everything for lightening...

                          • I am quite certain that the drilling on 550-0073 was done by Paul Sagan. I did a PPI on the car in about 2001, and speculated that it MIGHT be a werks car, because of the drilling. Joe Cavigliri later bought the car, traced history, and told me tha Paul was the original owner. I later talked to Paul's daughter, who had vivid memories of being kept awake at night by her father "drilling holes in everything" in the shop directly below her bedroom. Paul later owned a 550A, and the drilling on -0144 looks similar, so, he MAY have owned that particular car. He owned 550-0073, 550A-xxxx and 718-057. All 3 were sold in good time to Bill Wonder, and then to Herb Wetanson. 0073 is now in the Road Scholars collection, and 057 in a private collection in Canada.

                            • You are right Jerry - Paul did drill 550-0073. If 550A-0144 was finished in May 1958, this photo shows the delivery of Sagan's 550A around Sept 57, so it can't be the same car

My sources some of which i can name contend that it was in fact 904-006 number 84 that was the winner of the Targa Florio 1964 when i get documentation either way i will submit it for your consideration.
