    • Amusing story
I was sailing this last week-end on the Biscarosse lake south of Bordeaux along the Atlantic ocean
One of the regatta organisers was a Belgium retired in this warm part of France
He was there with an Apal buggy

Anyway in the 5P0's many small German car constructors produced cars most of the time built on a VW bug chassis
          Waibel was one of those

Inter"sting although the Waibel had the engine in the back it has a front grill coming from the British Morris Minor

                      • The above car is very different from the one seen on the period correct pics
Obviously the engine is at the back
The back wheels are Porsche whden the front wires wheel are the original Gordini wheels
                        Strange indeed

                        • So you're thinking it might be a replica? Wished Gordini would have done something aesthetic for the rear wheel opening.
                          Thanks for posting Gerard!

                            • The Gordini Porsche (sold now) is not said to be a replica and it is most likely that several ex-Gordini sold in South America were transform into Gordini-Porsche
The original Gordini had an home made twin cam engine very fragile
For sure very quickly the South American Gordini went out of order
Anyway for me I have difficulty to understand why transform them into Porsche powered cars
I believe it would have been rather easier to change the front Gordini motor by a US motor always in the front
Not much more than 40 to 50 max Gordini sport cars were built and raced
I have found one who is said to have raced the first Carrera Panamericana race in 1953

                              • Do you know that Gilberte Thirion and Annie Bousquet (before they became ennemy) bought a Gordini that they raced in several occasion
When they fall out Gilberte Thirion kept the Gordini for her
For the 1958 Reims 12 hours were Annie Bousquet get killed in her 550, Gilberte Thirion was driving the Gordini
