  • Gerard - Thank you as always for your great replies and contributions. I am not certain if the Walter Avus Carrera (51) is the same Walter Carrera at the Ostereichalpenfahrt (75) as the front hood and side mirror look different. Although they could have been changed for the speed at Avus to be more wind resistant.

Am still hoping to find more photos of this 1958 Avus high banked course event.

            • interesting that the Von frankenberg car is sporting a Netherlands license plate and either has the bumper slots filled in or taped over can't tell in this picture also Leo Levine was the American editor of stars and stripes and a journalist covering Motorsports in Europe. While owned a Speedster for 44 years I always felt that the '59 Carrera GT coupe that I also owned truly epitomized how the factory looked at 356 cars for competition.

              • The license plate is , a number that is associated with Carel Godin de Beaufort and first used by him on a VW Karmann-Ghia in '56, then a 356 Carrera in '57 (and maybe more)

                      • Yesterday in the 904 GTS topic I was refering to a 904 entered into the 1965 and 1966 Rallye de Lorraine by a Belgium pilot named Eddy Meert
Before to drive a 904 Eddy Meert had a Carrera GT 2000that he drove in the 1963 Huy 12 hours and in the 1963 Tour Auto
Below this car pictured during the Huy 12 hours
