Fair enough. On a much more modest car. We are slowing improving our 912 early targa. As it gets nicer I worry more about taking it out. Which is all wrong. I drove it up to Scotland last week and panicked when the hotel I had chosen didn't have covered parking (despite me calling to confirm they did).

Ricky,
After owning my 59 GT coupe for 47 years I decided to part with it too.
There are many moments when I regret doing it but I now have a very drivable 356C.
The GT became too valuable too avoid hail storms and parking lots.

Regarding your post of my comments on my '59 GT coupe, If you are asking why I parted with it, I guess the short answer is that what started out as a modest restoration for potential race use after the sale of my ex-works RSK turned into a full blown project resulting in a 100 point effort. I was never a concours guy, and then found myself with a car that was so good that it just sat in a garage. After some years, I decided to let it go. Life goes on...

Very pleased to note that the red 1959 Carrera GS-GT in the background of the photos posted in #...697 below is my former car, which I had restored by the Paterek Brothers, with engine by the late Bill Doyle (692/3). Now owned by the Ingram Collection, it finished fourth overall in the 1959 Tour de France, driven by Jean Kerguen, who also drove at Le Mans on numerous occasions. We won People's Choice and Judge's Choice with it at the 1990 Parade in Monterey.
Why did you part with it??

Kind of adds new meaning to "put out to pasture".
Like the rear flares too.
