Just to reiterate: No offense intended to anyone. All posts are of value. I just really love the ones loaded with fascinating details. My apologies to anyone that felt that my comment was directed to a specific individual. That was the last thing I intended...

Very pleased to note that the red 1959 Carrera GS-GT in the background of the photos posted in #...697 below is my former car, which I had restored by the Paterek Brothers, with engine by the late Bill Doyle (692/3). Now owned by the Ingram Collection, it finished fourth overall in the 1959 Tour de France, driven by Jean Kerguen, who also drove at Le Mans on numerous occasions. We won People's Choice and Judge's Choice with it at the 1990 Parade in Monterey.

Hi Richard
Thank you for your so kind comments
You turn me red !
Regarding the 1962 Targa Florio none of the Porsche were directly entered by Porsche KG
The 356 Abarth Carrera GTL race number 42 and 44 + the red 718 GTR spyder race number 108 were entered by the Scuderia Serenissima Republic of Venezia
The 356 Abarth carrera rac number 50 was entered bt Paul Ernst Strahle for himself
The 7 but when you look at the pilots of tRSK race number 116 was entered by the Scuderia San Ambrosio
But when you look at the name of the pilots driving these cars :
Hans Hermann + Herbert Linge for the abarth 42
Edgard Barth + Antonio Pucci for the Abarth 44
Jo, Bonnier + Graham Hill + Nino Vacarella for the 718 GTR race number 108 I am nearly sure that the Porsche factory was using them as as we say in French "nom d'enprun" who may be translated litteraly by borrowed name
Porsche had many successes in the Targa Florio but if you look carefully to the drivers you will note that they had always added Italian pilots to their own factory pilots
This was a good way to satisfy their Italian clients

Regarding the red WRS coupe in an out of order post to this reply, think that the entrant could have been Scuderia
Serenissima(Count Volpi), but I do know that the car was still owned by the factory at that time.
