I am not at a great specialist of the 356 Carrera's
I have done some search and was unable to find the chassis number of this 1500 Carrera entered in the 1956 Le Mans 24 hours by the Porsche factory for the team Max Nathan/Helm Glockler
We have two specialists on this site Michael D (CarreraGT) and Joris (Carrera the kid)
I will straight post the pics I found on the Carrera dedicated topic and ask them what they know about this car
In fact I made a mistake in my above post 2017 was the 7th edition not the 6th
I attended the 2nd one in 2012 with my Puma
and the 3rd one in 2013 with my 356
The dates of this meeting (July 14th/Bastille day in France) are not easy dates for me as they frequently coincide with a Sail regatta I love to do, but as this year 2017 this regatta was organized in Brittany at a location I dislike, I convince a friend to accompany me in this long trip
July 14th being a Friday this year edition was extended over 3 days
My friend having to work late Thursday we decided to start our trip early Friday morning and to shortcircuit the Friday tour who was to the Mont Ventoux climbing, something I did already twice before and to only join the other attendants at the Mathieu Lustrerie for a visit of the center lights repair shop
In addition to the red 1958 speedster seen above in front of the factory his personnal collection include
A 904 never raced and never restaured with less than 3500 km on the ondometer
a 2.7 RS 911 and a real 718 RSK that he enter twice in the Tour Auto
The principle of this meeting is that for a set price everything, hotel, meals, drinks visits are included
This year we were lodged in an old monastry turn into a modern hotel
Next day Saturday July 15th, was dedicated to a round 250 kilometers ride in the country with a stop for lunch in the altitude restaurant at the top of the Mont de Lure mountain
The Mont de Lure is the second highest mountain in this pre-Alps area cuminating at 1856 meters high, the first one being the Mont Ventoux with 1912 meters
Both the Mont Ventoux and the Mont de Lure are sky stations during the winter, but the Mont Ventoux nearer from Avignon the larger city in the area is more famous
For all Porsche fanatic the Mont Ventoux was also a famous hill climb race part of the World Hill Climb Championship, won many times by Porsche as per enclosed palmares
The famous French pilot Jean Behra won this race in 1958
Racing stop in 1976 but the Mont Ventoux is still used for many historical races such as the Monte Carlo rallye or the Tour Auto
By clicking on the above link you will open a short video in which you will understand how paricipants choose how they want to drive
Those who privilege touristic driving will constitute a calm group, some others will drive as mad
The morning I was leading the calm group
After lunch I lend over my car to a quite famous historical racing pilot and no need to tell you in which group he was
The roads were so difficult that it took us around 5 hours to cover the 200 kilometers of the circuit
Back to Gordes by 7 PM for the gala dinner in the hotel
