Question with the listing of 550-0079. You have the livery as the Swiss racing team (red with white hood and spears). In this photo it shows four 550s outside the Porsche Plant No 1 in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The identity of the spyders are:
          Red - 550-0079
          Yellow - 550-0082
          White - 550-0083
          Silver - 550-0084

As you can see, the red car is solid red with white spears - are you saying it was repainted for delivery?

Well, my wife tells me I've been good this year and that she ordered a book for me today. We have plans to rent a cabin up in Lake Arrowhead during the kids Xmas break with another family and once the kids are all put to bed, I look forward to reading this by the fire with a warm cup of something as the snow falls outside. All the while visions of Porsche dancing in my head

Thank you Steve and Rolf for your efforts! Also thanks should go to Porsche and the team there that allowed all this history and information to be made public for an extremely reasonable cost.

I gave it a quick once over just to get an idea of what is in there and man, the detailed technical evolution of each engine is just amazing! I'm looking forward to getting into all of it in the days to come. Physically I was also thrown by the thickness of this book as so far I'd only seen straight on shots of the cover. It is quite substantial and every bit as thick and heavy as a city phone book what an undertaking! Congratulations on completing such a "big lift" and a job well done!
                Justin
BTW: thank you for the personal note; greatly appreciated!

                  re 23693:

Yes, we believe the factory painted the hood white before delivery as to this and another car. We could be wrong but that is our take.

                  Steve Heinrichs

PS--Thanks Trevor and Justin for comments!

Not sure if I clarified. We think Porsche painted the hood, etc. before delivery.

                            Guys,

We have started an errata list and will update it from time to time. Since I am tecnologically challenged, I will be sending the first version to Justin for posting here.

On page 41 "The 1.1 four-cylinder motor produced up to 48 hp with twin overhead camshafts designed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann " . This section is in reference to the engines available in 1952 for those wishing more power from the then available VW based engines. Twin OH cams seem very complex a solution to make 48 hp. Likely I'm missing something ?
