The problem I see with the 2 photos I posted is that they are both early 550s with the rubber strip on the nose, so I would assume they are the same car. 550-0079 would have the 2 air intakes in the nose. Do you know what race #53 appeared in?

ps--have you never seen 48 horses together? Very strong?
True. Here's just eight mit der wagen. A bit cumbersome when mid or
      rear mounted....

          Hi Steve,

you need to add Tracey Bird who raced 550-0079 at SCCA Regional Phoenix on 2 March 1958 and came 8th

              Hi Vietta,

I see your confusion and raise you more confusion

In this thread Steve has made an amend to page 566 changing Schiller to driving 550-0028 (prev 550-0079)(he mentioned he had a photo of this race showing the 2 cars - is it possible to see it?) which I believe is correct as 0028 was owned by Arthur Heuberger at the time. Schiller then went on to race for the Ecurie La Meute team in 550A-0127 which you have recorded.

I have found some more information on 0079 which I will post shortly, I am not sure if I have posted this article before showing what I believe is 0079 as the black spyder owned by Bird in September 1957...

This is the only photo I have of Edouard Margairaz racing a Spyder which looks like it has the white hood. The photo was taken some time in 1957 (sorry for the quality)

                        Hi Vietta and Steve,

Thanks for sharing the photo of the 2 swiss 550s - I always had doubts that they both existed and seeing them together and that one had the rubber nose strip and one doesn't, it proves it is a later build (in theory).

In regards to Bird racing 550-09, I believe it is highly probable even though the photo shows a new Wendler rear. Looking at the photo again, you can see the external oil filler cap behind the cockpit - the same position as 550-09

I have contacted a couple of Swiss racing historians I know, so I will see if I can dig something else up.

                          re 23868:

Taking one thing at a time as the "white hood" discussion continues----

The point taken in 23868 is correct and we'll note. There was no 1.1 Ltr. motor with twin O/H camshaft and only 48 hp.

Dieter Landenberger's German text describes a normal 1.1 Ltr. (pushrod) Typ 369 and a higher output of 48 hp rather than 40 hp.

This was due to a "sharp" camshaft (designed by Fuhrmann) meaning modified standard Typ 369.

So, the English translation is wrong.

We'll add this to the errata list.

I got my book last week and am still finding new and amazing information.

Steve - a true work of art and I now can only imagine the effort that went into the book.

It has added more detail and intrigue as to # 83780!

                            Great job! Thank you!

                                re 23942---

Jerry, thanks much for thekind words. Rolf and I enjoyed the lengthy effort and are grateful for the support of many.

Lots offun stuff including the list of optioned-up cars not quite "Carreras" made by the factory.
