  • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to upload the latest edition of the Errata Sheet. Again, the newest information is listed with aqua highlight beside the page number from the book.

And Andrew, thank you for helping me with the Harbour family racing, and new start numbers--and more.

    • On with the show!

On P581 - Hawaii Race April 19 you have Turnbull driving 0069 and Richert driving 0047 in the locals race. Although Turnbull owned 0069, Loretta was his sister and drove it most of the time. In the photo you can see Turnbull on the grid (the number looks more like #11 than #110) in 550-0047 which is the spyder McAfee also drove.

      • Thought our 05/07 belongs back here Steve and you will be pleased I am looking at this with fresh eyes and an open mind. Quick question, on P578 - 12 Jan 1957 you have a side note 'with glove compartment' - where did this come from?

        thanks Andrew

          • Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to the photo of 1957 Interlagos at #26586. We do list this 1957 Interlagos race in the book, but we have identified Christian "Bino" Heins as the pilot. Fritz D'Orey was associated with Heins during this period. We will add D'Orey as a co-pilot for this race.

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to the 1957 Hawaii race.

We think Raymond Turnbull raced his own car (550-0069) in the Locals race at 21 April 1957 Hawaii (page 581).

              • Hi Vietta,

You will notice both cars have the duel exhaust systems which was very rare on a 550, especially with the other distinctive features - I still believe it is 0047

                thanks Andrew

                  • Although I am deep in some quite revealing research, it is believed by this race, Heins had sold the 550 to D'Orey as he had bought 550A-0143. D'Orey was the only driver for this race.

                    • Is it possible that the start numbers are incorrect and #7 is 550-0069 and #110 is 550-0047?

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to a question about the motors installed in 550-04.

At 1953 Carrera Panamericana, we note in the remarks that start nr. 160, Hans Herrmann car 550-04 had a 4-cam motor. This is correct. It was motor nr. 547-01. Later at 1954 Sebring and 1954 Carrera Panamericana, 550-04 had motor 547-05 (originally the motor for 550-0.

                        • While 550-05 was in Brazil, was it involved in a serious accident where it needed a whole new front end for the Buenos Aires 1000km or is it a different car?

                              Hello Everyone,

Steve Heinrichs has asked me to respond to Andrew's post about 550-04 at Carrera Panamericana.

We think Andrew is likely correct. To make sure that we are all on the same page, we are referring to the 1953 and 1954 Carrera Panamericana races.
                              • 1953 Carrera, 550-04, start nr. 160, Herrmann. Probably raced with a push-rod motor. Andrew's photo is the most contemporaneous.
                              • 1954 Carrera, 550-04, start nr. 55, Herrmann. Raced with a 4-cam motor. A couple weeks later at Nassau Speed Week, von Hanstein/Linge raced 550-04 with a 4-cam motor. In addition, Herbert Linge's notebook for that year lists the 1954 Carrera race with Herrmann, 550-04 and motor nr. 547-05.
                              • 1955 Carrera Panamericana was not held.

                              • Do you have 550-03 (#159) at the '53 CP with a push rod or quad cam? (I will try and use the word 'contemporaneous' in conversation this week - great word )
