Question to the 356 Carrera GT specialists
How many 356 A Carrera GT light metalized blue did Paul Ernst Strahle owe ?
If I refer to Paul Ernst Strahle palmares I find that he raced the 1957 Mille Miglia with a light blue 356 A Carrera GT + Paul Ernst personnal plate WN V 2
Is it the one in the Porsche museum
Anyway the one in the Porsche museum (although it is written) is not a 1960 model, as a 1960 model will be a BT 5
Another thing if you hear the comment of Dieter Landenberger (Porsche Stuttgart Director) he say this car won the 1959 Liege Rome Liege and finish 4th in 1959 the Targa Florio
but not for the 1959 Targa Florio where Paul Ernst Strahle was entered by Porsche on 2 cars :
The 550 RS race number 118 who finish 2nd overall with team mate Mahle/Linge/Scaglierini
and effectively a 356 A Carrera GT race number 96 with team mate Linge and Mahle
If we trust this scale model the 356 A race number 96 was metalized grey and had a S NR 36 plate ie a factory car plate, not the Strahle personnal carWN V 1
To complicate a little more the situation Paul Ernst Strahle enter 2 cars in the 1960 Targa Florio
His bright new 356 Abarth Carrera 1006 with plate number WN V 1 and race number 116 for himself and finish 6th overall and first in GT 2.5
and a 356 A Carrera plate number WN V 2 for Herbert Linge nwho finish 8th overall and 2nd in GT 2.5
Difficult to say which color was the 356 Carrera but it is definitely a 356 A
So still the 1957 one ?
agree with your above comment
For the 1959 edition of the Targa Florio Porsche KG enter 5 cars
A 356 A Carrera race nuber 96 for Paul Enst Strahle/Herbert Linge/Eberhardt Mahle
Another 356 A Carrera race number 102 for Huschke von Hanstein and Antonio Pucci a rich Italian aristocrat who was a very good Porsche customer
A 550 RS race number 118 for the team Herbert Linge/Paul Ernst Strahle/Eberhardt Mahle ie exactly the same team as for the 356 A Carrera 96 but for the 356 Paul Ernst was first pilot and for the 550 RS Herbert Linge was the first pilot
The 1959 edition of the Targa Florio was already raced on the small (piccolo) in Italian) race track "Circuito piccolo delle Madonie" of around 71.5 km to cover 14 times for a total of around 1.000 km
It took a little over 11 heures for the winner team ie a quite low average speed of a little less than 90 km/h
The winner team was 718 RSK race number 112 driven by Edgar Barth/Wolfgang Seidel
After this disgression back to the topic
Except the fact that Porsche cars achieved 1-2-3 and 4 in nthe 1959 Targa Florio, the real performance was that the 2 off 356 A Carrera were only 21 and 30 minutes behind the winner team on a much performing car
We have already discussed of the Strahle/Linge/Mahle team on car race 96 now the other one race number 102 driven byb Huschke von Hanstein Alberto Pucci
Now another enigma concerning Paul Ernst Strahle car race number 96
On this back view of the car race number 102 tail lights are teardrops
when on Paul Ernst Strahle car race number 96 tail lights are of the much older type
but on the contrary of what I said before Paul Ernst Strahle car although being a factory car, wear is usual personnal plate WN V 2 and not the S NR 36 plate figuring on the $scale model of this car
On top B&W photo #37640 - Note at rear the higher placement T1 A "Shine Down" lisence light installed on his T5 B no. 108 - makes room for the rear Rallye plate without bumper & lights.
