      Hi, does anyone have a detailed picture of the bracket used to secure the 1965 spec 904 megaphone exhausts to the gearbox? I have scoured the internet and can't find one! Any help gratefully received!

            This is the best picture I've found so far. Taken in 1969 so am not sure the bracket is definitely factory spec.

                Hey Philip,

                Glad we got the photo problem dialed in. Great shot BTW!

                That bracket looks factory to me being that its a pressed piece. The rolled strengthening beads is another detail that gives that away. Most privateers during this era would not have gone through the trouble of making this intricate of a bracket. More than likely it would have been a flat base-plate with a tubular arm out to each stinger. This bracket puts me in mind of an early 356 pre-A windshield wiper motor "bat-wing" bracket. I'd say its original.

                              Education wanted:

                              What gearbox was used/adapted for IRS?

                              Was this box based on the RSK box?

                              Was it/were both based on the 714?

                              Was the "ramp&beans" LSD still used in the 904? RSK?

                                Hi
                                the first IRS box was the 690 it was a 5 spd based on the 519 vw case. it used the jelly bean dff and the the fulcrum plates were pined to short axles the the inner part looked like a swing axle and the outer part was splined like a driveshaft. this box was the 550A box. the 718 for the RSK/RS60/RS61 etc. had a Mag case that was similar to the 644 case. The jelly bean diff ran on bigger brgs that allowed axial movement in the diff and the outer part was a conventional u joint. By Porsche design nos the next evolution was the 822 this box uses 901 gear sets there may have been 6 speeds but i have never seen any. the shift shaft attached at the bell housing and it used a clutch plate diff and Nadella axles. basically the 822 for the 8 cylinder engines and the 904/906/901/914 are based on the same internals.
