    Beans and cam tracks were exactly the same as the ones found on standard swing-axle ZF's with no heavy duty type changes made.

    The only difference was of course at the flanges which were set up for an IRS stub axle.

          There are a few remote places merely an hour from various major cities on the east coast where a 904 can emerge....FINALLY....from a 38 year restoration.
          Here it is in my former 'big shop' outside of Philly as a frame....and "body off" for a 904 is not an easy task! (Second 904 frame in waiting, stacked behind 016)

          Here is it last weekend with Dave Coleman and his trusty '50s Chevy tow truck as an engine lift with his second rebuild of the 4-cam and the engine back in to do test laps again.

          I think some medical issues for all involved in this 904 were a wake-up call to the mortality reality of 'git-r-done.' I know I want to drive it at least once before just getting in is too much trouble!

              Lovely looking car - with an intriguing sounding backstory. Can you tell us any more about the 30 year restoration journey? Which chassis is it?

                I will look for more pictures of that arduous journey to get it where it finally is. Earlier this year, it was driven, but the engine builder, Dave Coleman, didn't like a certain little noise and tore it down again...but had a stroke prior to finishing the second rebuild, but recovered nicely and it's back in chassis 014. I stated 016 initially but was corrected by Steve Heinrichs when I told him the owner's name. You'd think I'd remember, but I spent my time on various tasks at various visits to my shop over the past 38 years. I worked on that car in places other than the little plate welded to the frame in the rear right corner...like under the dash grinding fiberglass, building a real rollbar into the bulkhead space while race-wreck compromised parts were being replaced. It was a surprise to find the original roll bar was un-braced and held to the sheetmetal 'frame' with the same 6mm slotted cheesehead machine screws as used on 356 engine tin! That frame was also fitted with mounts for a 6 cylinder engine to be an 'either/or' but was first delivered with a 4. The car also languished for a few years at the shop of a well-known restorer who had various mechanical pieces copied for a clone he made that was likely better in fit and finish than any original by the factory.

                  Here is -014 getting a years-later shoulder harness upgrade before the engine went in. Couldn't move the cross tube up, so I fab'd the mounts with the help of S&W Racecars (fortunately local to us), filled the firewall's former slots ('glas work, no big deal) and raised the slots up to Tim's (owner/driver) shoulder height. I have pictures some where of filling front tub parts better (gas tank, etc.) last year before it went to Dave's shop for the engine.

                        The rallye de Lorraine (a local rallye in the east of France) will celebrate its 60th edition June 20/21st 2015
                        In the 60's local (as Christian Poirot) and professionnal (as Robert Buchet) drivers have entered many 904 GTS as could be seen on this color pic taken on the Nancy Stanislas place during the 13th edition of this rallye in 1965

                                Hi
                                Barbour had a bad accident in a 904 at Atlanta if it were in 100 it might explain the reverting to side fill
