I believe my Carrera had the engine from 718-024. 90216. Which was also raced by Ernie Erickson at LeMans.

As I posted in great detail some time ago, All 1958 built works cars that had the hood oil cooler assembly with cad plated surface and no paint were also equipped with an in-line auxiliary oil cooler alongside the driver's left leg and had an inlet scoop and circular exhaust behind it. It still did not provide sufficient cooling and the whole idea was dropped on the 1959 cars. No series built cars had this set-up.

I will search for my earlier post...RR

Looking more closely to this 2 pics it looks like Hans Hermann car had an air inlet added on the left side
Does somebody know why ? (brakes cooling ? but if so why on one side only ?
On the Le Mans race track cars turn clockwise
Therefore the left wheels cover more distance than the right ones
    Your ideas appreciated

Le Mans 1959 was a disaster for Porsche who did enter 6 off cars

car race number 31 (718 RSK 00 for Jo Bonnier/Wolfgang von Trips
car race number 32 (718 RSK 007)for Hans Hermann/Umberto Maglioli
car race number 34 (718 RSL 006) for Edgar Barth/Wolfgang Seidel
car race number 35 (550 RS 0142) for Jean Kerguen/Robert Lacaze
car race number 36 (718 RSK 027) for Carel Godin de Beaufort/Christian Heins
car race number 37 (718 RSK 024) for the US teamn Ed Hugus/Ernie Erickson

None of these cars were amongst the 12 finishing cars

Aston Martin were first and second followed by a Ferrari

    Has anybody seen this

    http://petrolicious.com/the-porsche-718-is-a-living-legacy

Derek Bell says 176 hp. The 4 Cam bible says that 041 had a 547/2 engine in it. Which produced 150hp?

The center photo in post 32553 to which you refer is in the garage at Teloche near Le Mans which was used for many years by the Factory Team to prep the cars for the 24 Hours...
RSK number 30 clearly shows the "works only" cad hood oil cooler set-up and side intake and exhaust for the air to pass over the auxiliary side cooler.

I like the overhead belt drive for the machinery.
I used to work in a shop which had that.
