I want to correct my comment about the so-called Anteater Spyder. It was Bernie Vihl, not Ernie, who owned that car, from Camden, New Jersey, although he was born in Germany. Further while he owned 718-031 and raced it about 3 times it was Bob Holbert, driving for him who raced the wheels off it and won evrything in sight in 59-60. Bernie then bought and RS-60 or 61 and this looks like it, if you note the dash curve, which did not exist on the RSK's...
That's what happens when you do this stuff from memory, not research...

Point well taken, Justin! I didn't caption my own post...I don't want to encourage a Cult of Personality, but that's me on the day I aquired my ex-works RSK, the last one built and raced by the factory, 718-009. I probably should have been smiling from ear to ear, but believe me, I couldn't have been happier. By the way, there was no 718-010 built, per Jurgen Barth and the factory records which I examined personally at the works, so when it shows up, there will be a few questions to be asked...
Anyway, I raced it for more than 10 years and foolishly sold it to Ralph Lauren, and you can guess why...
Road Scholars has my 59 GS-GT, but the 58 Speedster I have had for 42 years is not going anywhere! Best to all-Happy Thanksgiving! RR

Speaking of which, what's the story behind the photo you posted Richard?

I find it so refreshing to see captions on these photos, and wish that it was a standing rule. It's so frustrating to try and figure out the where and when of some of these worthwhile photos.

Thanks for sharing a bit of history about the Anteater Richard. Did Warren restore the car back to correct RSK configuration?

Brand new RSK drove straight into the back of another race car and smashed the nose which was rebuilt wth this abomination by Ernie Vihl of New Jersey. Warren Eads later owned this car....
