1. Steve, perhaps it's time to break down and buy your book!!
2. Though most references to those 718 coupes simply call them that, I have unearthed at least one reference to the 718 GT-R, referring to the same model, but which happened to be a slightly modified variant campaigned by Count Volpi's Scuderia SSS Venezia with the delectable 771 flat eight installed, and painted flat red.
I believe, although I cannot say for certain, that the factory retained ownership of that car when it was in his hands...By the way, they were built on the 718 RS-61 chassis.

Your photograph is of the 1963 Carrera 2000 GS-GT coupe, of which two were built, and was nicknamed "Dreikantschaber" because it resembled a triangular scraper tool in shape. It was an in house design that picked up on many of the styling cues of the 718 coupes which were introduced two years earlier, although without the windows on the upper quarter panels (in particular), and also had those distinctive louvers on the lower rear quarters. Ludvigsen shortened the appellation to DKS on the 2 liter GT coupe, which was of course created with the same logic that led to the creation of the earlier Abarth Carrera, lighter weight and better aerodynamics provides improved performance in class categories.
I am not acquainted with the 718-GTR reference. Perhaps it is also referred to in another way?

Can somebody give me a history lesson?
I have thought that 718 GTR and 356B DKS were the same cars?
However, they seem to look similar but are based on different chassis? Can someone give me more history about these cars?
356b dks
