Hi Alan
Very interesting comment
I found these pics on a topic dedicated to the Targa Florio and they were all together
May be Porsche took over to Sicily 4 718 041/043/044 and 047 and only 3 raced
(-043/044 and 047) Porsche did that often for the Le Mans race : take over more cars than they had entries, to practice and then choose the best ones for the race
In this case 2 different cars will wear the same race number.
One month later Porsche enter again 3 718 in the ADAC 1000 km reisen on the Nurburgring with the same 6 pilots

Hi Alan can you determine over what period Holbert drove 044 and do you think that the factory switched tubs for entry paperwork purposes and the tub that Holbert was running had been rebodied or a customer car sold with the 044 serial??

Porschinelle,
Great photos. But interesting that the last photo of no. 132 with the small dent in the nose is a different car than the other photos of no. 132. The car in that last photo is 718-041 and the other photos of no. 132 are of 718-043. Note differences in orientation of the numbers and that -041 does not have the built in driving lights that -043 has.

The 45th Targa Florio was raced April 30h 1961
Bonnier/Gurney passing the finish line
As you may see in he below results list the winner was the Dino Ferrari 3.0 L driven by Olivier Gendebien/Wolfgang von Trips
Bonnier/Gurney on 718-O47 finish 2nd overall
Hans Hermann/Edgar Barth finish 3rd
Stirling Moss/Graham Hill on 718-044 lead most of the race but broke a transmission during the last lap
After the race Stirling Moss/Graham Hill were declared by the journalists "moral" winner but as said Sirling a moral victory is nothing compare to a simple victory

Hi Jacques
Hi Alan
Hi Rickie
Very interesting discussion
I would have been delighted to help you Jacques but I am just a fan of Porsche spyders not an expert neither in 550 or 718
The only thing I may do is confirm what Alan said about the 1961 Targa Florio
Porsche enter 3 off 718 RS 61
Car race number 132 718 RS 61-043 fitted with a 1.7 engine and driven by the team Hans Hermann/Edgar Barth
Car race number 134 718 RS 61-047 fitted with a 2.0 L engine and driven by the team Jo Bonnier/Dan Gurney
Car race number 135 718 RS 61-044 fitted with a 2.0 L engine and driven by Stirling Moss/Graham Hill
To show you as I am a beotian in 718 could some of you explain me why -043 and -044 raced in the 1960 Targa as RS 60 ?
Is there any technical difference between RS 60 and RS 61 ?
Anyway the Targa Florio is very well documented here in Europe as you may see there after
First to confirm Rickie assertion Stirling Moss car with the big yellow painting
This pic was taken during the practice which explain Sirling waving his hand to say hello to the poor Abarth Carrera race number 96 driven by Herbert Linge/Huschke von Hanstein

Hi Jacques,
dug out the factory setup sheets that I have for the '61 Targa (4/30/61) and for the '61 Nurburgring (5/28/61).
Factory spyders in the Targa were -043 (start no. 132 w/ Herrmann/Barth), -044 (start no. 136 w/ Moss/Hill), and -047 (start no. 134 w/
Bonnier/Gurney). -044 and -047 had 2-litre motors and -043 had a 1700.
Factory spyders in the Nurburgring were -041 (start no. 20 w/ Moss/Hill), -044 (start no. 23 Barth/Herrmann) and -047 (start no. 21 w/ Bonnier/Gurney). All had 1700 engines.
Don't have any info on -042 but have a vague recollection that it was being used as a hillclimb car.
As far as the Holbert car could it have been a different car? photos would easily show if it was a car other than -042, -043, or -044 as they are distinctive from other RS-60's, due to the built in driving lights and narrow oil cooler opening. Trivia question: what Porsche had a General Motors part in 1960, and what was it? Answer: Factory RS-60's which had an oil cooler made by the Harrison division of GM.
