  • Engine No P 90 076 is up for sale, which is out of 550-0071. This is one of my 'lost' spyders - does anyone have any info or pics of it?

Very interesting Andrew, Maybe this cut up car that Chad posted a while back could be the long lost 550-0071? Because I cannot afford it, how much are they asking for the engine?

          • It is definitely a 550RS chassis - which number - unknown...? It could have been rebodied back into a 550 at some point. Does anyone know who the driver was?

I am onto the provenance of 550-0020 at the moment - I found Art Bunker III. Interesting guy who makes leather sporrans

            Here is his father's dealership

              • I must admit that once again Steve was right : this pic was taken Saturday July 7th 1957 ie the day before the Rouen formula 1 Grand prix that Jean Behra raced in a Maserati
The car is Christian Goethals 550 A 0122
The other 550 belong to another Belgium pilot Georges Harris
Jean Behra won this race on a 718RSK in 1958 who also wear the race number 2 which induct me in error

Well, I have done a search and I think a number of people on this forum already know about this car (or can find out) especially Mr Doyle who is friends with the then owner - John 'Bats' Masterson. He owned a 550, which was 550-0048, originally raced by Zora Arkus Duntov. I am not sure if this is the one he rebodied, but if it was, it is back as a Spyder again

                    • Thanks for sharing this Andrew and great bit of detective work! The restored car in your photo looks like another funky re-body. Aside from the weird stance it really gives off a Beck replica vibe. I guess considering how much it was cut up by old "bat" there wasn't a whole lot of the original car left. Thanks again! Justin

                        • For those interested, I did share a couple of recent emails with John "Bat" Masterson about his early 550 and RS60 days. See his comments below:

                          • Thanks for contacting John, Michael. They used to do crazy things back in the day of grass roots racing - you wouldn't be able to get away with that these days! Is it possible to find out if he remembers who he bought it off originally or sold it to?

                            thanks Andrew
