Looking good Scott. I know that stage well. Blocking and obsessing over any slight wave or irregularity as the reflection moves down the side of the car.

Looks great Scott! Liking that reflection across the door gaps and the clean finish down through the rocker. Gentle curve but not too much nor too flat. Your buddy knows what he's doing. The way the reflection terminates around the wheel opening edges is another critical one. These body's are not easy to get right and clean. I can fully appreciate all the hours of long boarding here.

  • Thanks Justin. Dave is taking his time and fussing on the details. We are Finding minor issues with the front nose I replaced in the front hood valley and lower front edge. Not as symmetrical as I thought in the metal work stage. He says it has been a challenge but feels he is winning. The rear sail panel leading up to the roof also fought him hard.

Looks like a dream Scott, you gotta be happy with that!

    • Dave has covered most of the real estate now with 120 - really straight and smooth. Light reflection looks great - no waves. This was a “juicy couple of coats of high build†that paid off. Likely now just need a couple of thin\medium coats to move on to next stage. Gaps are coming along very nice - focus was on lower door edged and sill. Also was struggling with doors. Eventually swapped out the new stoddard latches (junk) and went back to original latches. They are Bakelite so should polish up fine. With original pins reinstalled and a bunch of fiddling the door now closes like butter - with that classic Porsche two clicks.. Of course the bottom corner of the drivers door lost a bit of position 😡 so some additional boarding required. Also back at the rear deck lid again. Drivers side edge with lid still not correct as a flat transition to fender but getting close. Inch by inch. Its lines are improving with each pass Scott. You must be getting very excited. Love that front quarter shot of it; its looking good!

ID:	116341 on some 3D plastic iterations. Getting closer but needs a smoother more tapered hump slope transition and holes need to follow the spine line as well. Building as a small ball hinge so lid won’t bind when opened. Once the design is developed it will then be printed in stainless steel.

Agree, little side projects like this are a great distraction and helps to keep the motivation and progress going forward. Especially the monotonous chore of long board sanding. These are cool, what outfit is going to print the final part for you?

    • Spent some time trial fitting the bumpers. I have smoothed them out on top to eliminate the overlap seam normally hidden by bumperetts as I’m going with GT style bumpers. Overall not bad. The holes I cut in the rear for the bumper brackets are still on the small and tight side so will need to enlarge some more. Got the car off the rotisserie and on to a paint style cart to work on lower front and rear valances and bumper fitting. Also got some nice company in cars in the shop Click image for larger version

Bumpers are fitting nicely. Looks like the next round of block sanding is getting underway. Busy little shop...

    • Scott been following your effort on the car. A lot of hard work indeed and its going to look very nice when finished. I remember the last time I sprayed the body of my 356 in 1989 the time and effort involved still using then cellulose paint. Its the time and effort that pays off in the end. Well done indeed and some good photo's too !!
