  • Used a dimpled piece of metal to hammer in the rivets and retain the mushroom shape of the head. All hammered down snug and tight.

      • Battery box done so time to weld it on. Nice to see the first stage of rhinoplasty complete.

          • Finished cleaning up battery box and welding in the K bar support strut. Took some shaping and some coaxing with an old socket and hammer to find the shape.

                  • John you are right. Got a whole lot things that need to all come together and shake hands. inner panels - front clip -front closing panels - and doors. I think my next step is to do the doors and get them fitted and then merry the whole front of the car. Fortunately, Lots of good pics and advice here on the forum to follow for doors.

                        • Metal lapping the battery box. Cut and positioned to metal flaps to be welded to a the upper torsion bar tower and at some point be welded to the inner front panels .

                            • Like you said.....there's a lot of moving parts here!! The most important thing is to fit everything to the hood. This ensures that everything is gapped correctly. Look at Justin's Coupster build where he built his whole front end. Lots of fiddling and diddling to make it work. Not for the faint of heart!!

                              Good luck.

                              • Scott,

I have never delved so deep as you have.I have looked very closely at those last set of photos and even without the experience of John or Justin, I think you have hit the nail on the head when you speak of the hood lid. If it were me, ( an engineer all my working life ) the lid is the 'DATUM' I notice you say its kinked but those hood hinges should be installed. I presume the front bulkhead has the fixing points in place and then the lid then should de-kinked enough so it does not interfere with the rest of the lid closure form.

Then although you have no closure trough, if you had marked the hinge and lid before removal ?? the lid can at least be lowered to give you some aspect of where the sheet metal below has to be placed.

The lid then is the datum but to get all the panels to conform to meet it is beyond me. You would need another car to compare or I would?
As John says look at Justins thread very carefully. He might say all the new panels anyway, might need a fair bit of alteration.

I really wish you all the best on this job, not easy any of it. Measurements I guess you have in writing, Some would have had a cellette holding fixture to get all the datums correct as for when badly damaged front end cars were arriving years ago for front end damage repair.

                                Roy
