        • Those little flanges hold a rubber seal in place that supposedly keeps water/air from coming back over the top of the closing panel/door hinge pillar, and under the cowl, into the passenger compartment. The seal is just a little piece of foam, or soft tubing that sits on that little ledge. On later cars the flange/seal extend a ways around the bend at the top of the hinge piller.

          • Oh, if you mean the piece you are holding with the writing on it, the top of the closing panel gets spot welded to those horizontal surfaces at thetop of the hinge pillar, and at the outboard edge the rear of the front fender gets folded over them.

There are some photos of repairs to my '64 here:

And a few more here, may show better how the closing panle laps over that flange

            • Rebuild and set your hood to its final desired shape and profile first Scott. Then hinge it to the car and gap it squarely with the cowl. While you're at it I'd also roughly mock up the latch mechanism off the top off the batter box wall Like I did on the coupster project. Watch for the transition profile line from the cowl off to the hood to establish your desired final closed position height.

You are completely free-styling this so all that matters is what the latched hood is telling you to do. The final location of your new closing walls there is completely dependent on the relief gap needed to allow the fender's step flange to seat flush on it and have the lip of the fender opening around the hood come out even or as close as possible against it in the closed position. Are you using new fenders as well? If so everything is different now so you're profile templates won't be much help at this point. Its overwhelming I know; just set your hood first then the next step will soon reveal itself.
              Its looking great!

                • Putting off the hood and front for a bit and tidying up a few losse ends. Got the rear engine tin bracket installed.

                  • Going to start to dig into the doors. On the abcgt blog there are two great stories on how to repair doors. I can find part two and part three but cannot find part 1. Can some send me a link to part one? All artfully written by Tom Perazzo. As well any other builds here that document. Thanks x s

                          • Continue to dig into passenger door. Made a jig to reposition the lower door hinge once I start cutting out the bad metal.

                            • This door will need a lot of work. Porsche made a very complicated door!, started by forming up the inner flange to support the door bottom.
