In 2009 the Peter Max Muller who is now in the Hambourg Prototyp museum, was invited to attend the Goodwood festival of speed
For the occasion the car went first in Andy Prill workshop to be completely overhauled including an engine rebuilt
At this occasion the English magazine Classic Motors cars published a very documented report

A Denzel?

Indeed it is
One of the first serie with the split windscreen
The nmove from the split windscreen to the one piece panoramic one did too around 1954/55 as Wolfgang Denzel car whith wghich he won the 1954 Alpine Rallye had still the split one

On the contrary of what I wrote in the Denzel chapter, the Denzel had a home made steel tubular chassis
Only the suspension and the engine were coming from the VW and at the end only the crank case was from a VW all the other parts as camshaft, heads, piston etc being specific to Denzel
At the end of the Denzel Saga some cars were fitted with Porsche engine

Jim, Thank you for sharing these stats and details with us. A Denzel is a rare bird indeed at only 65 units produced. As you said there must be a good handful still out there languishing in someone's long forgotten garage or shed. Out of curiosity, what is a fair price for one of these cars? I'm sure if it retains that original Denzel motor you described the value goes up exponentially. Thanks again for joining us here and Welcome once again!

Jim - Are you aware of any car shows that cater specifically to the coachbuilt cars? D&S, Rometsch, Denzel, etc.

Jack Staggs and I have talked at length about how special these cars are; as a potential Porsche 356 customer back in the day might have chosen one of these coachbuilts instead of a 356 or maybe even to compliment a 356 they already owned. The shame is that outside of the occasional one or two seen at the VW Classic, Laguna Seca or VW Treffen every other year, there really isn't a car show for them to be displayed at - not a VW and not a Porsche, so they kind of fall into no mans land. Do you think that if there was a special section at one of the 356 shows such as Dana Point or North meets South we could rally the troops and get a lot of them to attend?
