Exceptionnaly the 1956 Le Mans edition took place end of Joly due to a delay in the completion of all the road works decided after the terrible 1955 accident
Below an exceptionnal video of a complete tour of the Le Mans track by a Jaguar D driven by Mike Hawthorne the 1955 winner
This video was done some days before the race
As I told you before the Le Mans race track use a large parts of National roads
These roads stay open to normal traffic except of course for the practice and official races
As you will see in those days it was possible to drive very quickly a race car on open roads with cars and bicycles going in both direction

                    • The race was very tough
Out of the 50 starting cars only sixteen finished amonsgt these 2 Porsches
550 0104 race number 24 driven by Richard Von Frankenberg/Wolfgang Von Trips finished 5th overall covering 300 laps ie 3795 kilometers
The 356 race number 34 driven by Roland Bourel/Michel Slotine finished 13th overall
