The Alpine Renault "berlinetta" who were a ferous Porsche competitors were built until 1977 in the Dieppe plant
Here the A 110 winner of the 1972 Monte Carlo rallye
Doing some searches on the "Grand Rallye Automobile de Dieppe" in fact a local rallye with nothing of "Grand" except the name, found the below video realised during the 1955 6th edition of that rallye
Really interesting video I never see before
A large part of this video is dedicated to Claude Storez driving an early 550, therefore I will also post it on the 550 topic with some questions for Andrew to solve
This video also explain what was a local French rallye in the 50's
At that time the French car constructors (Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, Panhard and Simca) were all manufacturing small an light cars
Therefore to favorise these small cars, rallyes were raced on open roads
Exact times were recalculated with an handicap formula to favorise small cars
If you look at the below results table you will see that the 7th first editions of this rallye were won by small French cars
The rallye was not raced from 1956 to 1980 and then we had rwo Porsche victories
For the small history this rally still exist to day and the 45th edition was raced in May this year
In addition to the night parcours on open roads two real races were disputed but did not count for the classification
In that case a hill climb at Pourville in the calcar cliffs not far from Dieppe
and a real race in a temporary race track in front of the Dieppe beach
Both races were won nby Claude Storez on his 550 spyder
Good try !
Indeed this Factory 356 Carrera 2.0 was driven during the 1964 Monte Carlo rallye by the French team Robert Buchet (right) and Michel Gauvin
Robert Buchet started his pilot carreer as Claude Storez co-pilot in 1954
That same 1964 year Robert Buchet in addition to his job of Porsche factory pilot, bought for his own pleasure (he was Porsche distributor for the west of France) a 904 he drove in many local rallyes
Robert Buchet was originated from Poitiers a quite large city in between Tours and Bordeaux not far from where I grew and where I am back to day
In October 1965 during the La Rochelle rallye d'Automne I had even the chance to sit in the 904 unforgettable memory
To go back to the 1964 Monte Carlo rallye Porsche enter 2 off 356 Carrera 2.0
Car race number 147 for Buchet/Gauvin who did finish the rallye but at a mere 122nd place and another Carrera 2.0 car race number 224 for the German team Gunter Klass/Hans Wercher who did a bit better finishing 37th
The Portugese team Fernando Stock/Pinto Basto on a 1951 356 PRE A 1100 pictured during the 1952 Lisboa rallye
You certainly remenber that another pic of that same car plate DI-18-16 was already posted some weeks ago in this topic when we discussed 356 at the 1953 Monte Carlo rallye
This team was wery proud to wear race number 1
Interesting to note that the Portuguese Porsche importator named Guerin imported 2 off 356 1100 in 1951
The second car was sold to Joaquim Filip Nogueira who is now hknown as one of the most famous Portugese pilot
This car had plate DI-18-17 (at that time in Portugal plate number belong to the car ie will stay unchanged if the car is sold)
Joaquim Filip Nogueira teaming with Jaime Rodrigues wonj that same 1952 lisboa rallye
and many more rallyes and races in Portugal
Nice color photo reavealing that this cas was of a nice green color
Looking back to what I wrote I realise that I made two mistakes
In fact it is not 2 off 356 PRE A that Guerin import in 1951 but three as at that same 1952 Lisboa rallye another 356 wear plate number DI-18_18
Another mistake is that I posted a pic of Fernando Stock car plate number DI-18-16 amongst Joaquim Filip Nogueira car pics taken during the 1953 Monte Carlo rallye
