  • Actually, the Dutch GN license is intended for foreigners. Yet this number is well known for Carel Godin de Beaufort, definitely a Dutchman.
The dark triangle in front of the door is the logo for Ecurie Maarsbergen.

    • My dream car a hardtop speedster. This one seems to be squatting on it's rear wheels?

From the 600 starting cars, only 272 reach the arrival line

The werk cars were not very successfull
                        050 and 137 were DNF
048 finish 80th overall but 1st in the sport 1.1 class
Italian own cars were most successfull
327 finish 46 overall and first in the 1.5 GT class
322 finish 47th overall and 2nd in the GT 1.5 class
and 314 finish 53rd overall and 3rd in the GT 1.5 class

enough to allow Porsche to claim for a large victory

                        • And now the link between the Vance pic and the 1952 Mille Miglia

To be allowed to enter 3 cars in the GTI class Porsche had to compell with a stupid Italian regulation who state that total height (from the roof to the ground) of the GTI cars could not be less than x
Unfortunately the 356 were too low and Porsche had to cut off the roof of all three GTI cars and surelevated it by 2 or 3 centimeters

and if you go back to the pics of 314, 322 and 327 you will clearly see the surelevated roof

                          • Of course the Mille Miglia organisers had to drop this stupid regulation and starting from 1953 all the 356 entered had standard roofs

The poor Italian mutilated cars were also return to original quickly after the race as you may see on the car race number 314 who still exist to day in a Dutch collection

But before to be return to standard both cars race number 314 and 322 were entered into 2 Italian races, the 1952 Coppa Dolimiti in the Italian Alps and the 1952 Coppa Toscana
Coppa Dolimiti suits the surrounding seen on Vance pic but not the race number

Thanks to JOP we know this pic was taken in June 1952 during the Midnightsun Swedish rally raced from the 17th to the 20th of June
and that this car was driven by the great Swedish pilot Gert Kaiser helped by Henry Ericson
Found that this car was a very early Gmund aluminium Porsche chassis number 032

Another pic of that same car ready to start
