Agreed, They are all very brave but I don't think they all equipped brass balls; Look closely at the Pink dragster above with the pink pig-tails flowing off the top of the drivers helmet? Anyone know who this was? I'd venture to guess you could count the female drivers back then on one hand but I don't think this was Shirley Muldowney was it? Thanks for posting these Byron!

Looks like it says Muldowney on it. The style looks close to her Don Long dragster: A Little Piece of Her Heart

You guys are correct. Shame on me for not recognizing Shirley "Don't Call Me Cha Cha" Muldowney. She was at the 50th Winternationals a couple of years back. She was and is a winner.
Moving right along, it is my opinion that Ms. Muldowney DID have a basketball sized cast iron pair. She defeated all comers in what was a sport/endeavor in which she was greeted with a LOT of hostility. She proved herself better than all that, earning, eventually, the grudging admiration even of one of her biggest detractors at the time, Don Garlits. As the ballplayers say - a tip of the cap.
One edit here: Just for the record, my original comment referred to the AA/FA cars which Shirley, to my knowledge, did not drive. That is not to demean anyone who drives the top fuel cars - I just loved and love the altereds - top fuel power on a short wheel base back when "funny" cars were still A/FX and running on gasoline.
Thamks for this thread and all the photos.Bill Sampson
