Nice A rod. My first A, a 29 two door with the top sawed off, I ran at Bunker Hill drag strip up north of Kokomo, IN. I was going to run it in what I assumed would be a stock class, but since they did not want to give away a trophy to a car with no 4 cyl. competition they stuck me in X dragster class against a true dragster with a Borgward 4 cyl. engine. Well, I came prepared with a spare homemade downdraft manifold with a Stromberg 97 carb. Pulled out the rear seats, removed the spare, pulled the fan belt, put my army canteen belt around the seat to pass safety inspection, borrowed a helmet and was ready to go. Unfortunately, the modified throttle rod setup crapped out on me so I had to push the windshield open and run a wire from the carb lever through the windshield opening. I blew the Borgward off the line and was leading 2/3 down the strip when the engine started either starving for gas or had too much. The Borgward beat me. In my haste to change manifolds I did not use a new gasket and had an air leak. Still had lots of fun, and the crowd was really cheering me on.
