  • Thanks Justin!

Did you "pie cut" the rear fenders to fit those 16x7's? If so, do you have any pics of the car after the mod was finished?

    • My Pleasure Brian!
Yes, the rear was pie-cut to make way for these wheels. You can see the filler strip between the taillights in the last photo. This car also has late model 911 SC rear torsion tube and alloy trailing arms so widening the rear skin was unavoidable. The car is not done and these are my best mock-up photos of the eventual conversion. If I did not say it before: Welcome to our forum and thanks for being part of it. If you're working on a car please share your build with us! Justin

          • Thanks Justin...I appreciate the information and will definitely share my build once I get started. A couple more questions for you:

How wide is the cut at the end/bottom? Or put another way, how wide did you go?
Is there a build thread on this car?

I am planning to do the same type of mods (widened rear fenders, 5-speed, etc), but this is my first foray into Porsches (previous projects were a '65 Shelby Cobra, '69 Camaro, '59 Corvette, '76 FJ-40, etc...) so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.

            • Hey Brian, The cut at its widest was right at 2 1/2 inches. Ultimately your wheel and tire combination will dictate how wide you'll need to go.

Here is the build thread to it: http://www.abcgt.com/forum/6-Hot-Rod--Modified-356/23-HotRod-Coupster-57976-coupe-into-full-speedster.html
I have a lot more old photos I need to digitize to update the thread; I've added it to the list.

As of tonight its on its side against my wall behind a lot of my junk until I get my coupe finished.

Nice resume of previous project cars. We have a couple more in common, I love Toyota trucks and am a huge C1 solid-axle corvette fan.

Looking forward to seeing your 356 project!! Justin

                        • Nice catch on that one Jack! I think you're absolutely correct that Beutler was their inspiration. Justin
