The Polopolus 4 cylinder 911 engine

In the issue of ' Classic Porsche' there is an article written about a 56 Speedster and a 58 coupe modified by Emory Motorsports. Its interesting because he has used the Polo 4 and describes the detail and carbs for example he has used. Scat Enterprises supplied the crank and 964 components regarding pistons cylinders, heads and rods were used. Twin plugs distributor, custom 911 camshafts, all to make a 2.4 litre that develops 185 bhp. ( Goodness makes my 75 brake seem rather tame.)

Beautiful looking cars and by the way the mag is produced over here but availiable in the States is right up your 356 street, its a great read.

Another Lifesign from Europe (Good old Germany)
I found informations about this engine at the end of the 90's on the
website from OsoleteParts (Emory). So I came in contact with Dean.
Until now I have visited Dean twice in Temecula
Here are some photos of my work on the engine after I've received a motor kit from Dean.

Some new parts I've made a new housing for the distributor, because I couldn't use the distributor like Dean I need some more space at the 964 chain housing. The other one is a new cover for oil screen.

Ralph, Welcome to our forum! Thank you very much for posting and sharing the details of this beautiful Polo engine build of yours! I've looked through your photos several times already, nice work on those heads. The cut cam tower and custom 964 valve covers look factory! They are slick! I have to admit I am only learning about the 911 motor evolution; is there a large advantage to running 964/993 chain boxes and tensioners or is your mission to simply create a 4 cylinder 964 motor? Really nice work! Looking forward to any more shots and details your willing to share. Welcome once again!!

thank you for the friendly welcome.
At the time when I started to buy parts for the engine the 964 parts are much cheaper than the old one.
At the moment, prices have adjusted but again, the advantage is no longer available.
The other reason why I wanted to use these parts was that it was the last stage of development before the hydraulic valve play compensation was used.
The 993 cam towers has the hydraulic valve play compensation.

Got a few cool shots from Dean a few days ago.

Dean is currently installing a Turbo charger on a customers existing Polo motor that was in his Black A coupe.

For the design of the system he's working with a tuner that specializes in turbo charging Honda motors.

He's shooting for 300+ HP!
I've asked Dean to keep me posted.
