                    • What hapened ?
In 1966 a Paris area Porsche specialist called Jacky Dechaumel, bought what left of 904-047 ie a small batch of burn metal but also the original papers
Jacky Dechaumel raced his own 904 and also maintain and repair many 904
His dream was to rebuilt 904-047 but never had the time to do so

                          • I remember discussing this car a while back Gerard. Fantastic follow up details and description. Back to your original question is this car considered a "real" 904?

I think I've posted these pictures before now, but both 904 frames support "real" 904s again, albeit as much as 45 years after their demise, one from a racing wreck and one from a garage fire.

Obviously, the more of the original 904 there is, the easier it is to claim it a "repair." The less of the original there is to work with, the more it morphs from "rebuilt or restored" to "recreated" but if the bits needed came from Porsche as replacement parts, the closer to the "repaired" wording can be assigned to a valid plaque about 12x50mm carefully welded to the frame.

There is a book on the 904 that has a history of each chassis. I know not if a registry and small publication thereto is still in existence, but it was available to only those who owned a 904. A very small but very tight community. There are a few VERY good clones, but the numbers don't lie. All are accounted for except perhaps some Shelby-esque "continuity" chassis made from spares.

I am reminded of the tales of European Ferrari meets where more GTOs attend than Ferrari records indicate were produced.......
