Pat, I've heard similar stories about the A/C Cobras languishing on used car lots in the late '60's and early 70's. I was told they almost couldn't give them away at the time. Makes the imagination run wild!

Nice photo John! Did you notice the image is flipped...
      Thank you Steve!

            • Love the first picture. Carel Godin de Beaufort. Now there was a character. A friends mother in law was a good personal friend of him. The stories she told me, wow what a character. Likely the final true gentleman racer

              • Very interesting Joris; what is one of the more memorable stories of this driver?

                  Go to:

                  http://www.carelgodindebeaufort.nl/carel.html

As a private owner/racer, Carel teamed with Porsche Werkes at many races --- even letting factory drivers race his personal cars.

                          • I include these images here as this thread seems the best fit for the
' Outlier ' Porsche cars of the 356 era. Formula cars, privateer derivations utilizing Porsche power and such.

                            Poopers at the PRCC event.

Formula cars at the same great event. Thanks Steve, for the display of cars that generated so much for a very worthy cause.

There are many. One of the stories I liked is how he, while practicing at a circuit noticed my friends mother in law standing next to the circuit. He stopped invited her into the car and treated her to a hot lap. The smile on her face, even after all those years told me how much she had enjoyed it.

His estate apparently hosted some rear and valuable old trees. One day being short on cash needed for a new car, he had some cut down not telling his parents and sister.

Michael's excellent link has many other interesting stories.
