Hi Michael
I have seen on the autodiva site that in 2011/2012 you were part of a discussion about the 1957 Reims 12 hours race re your personnal carrera GT
Have you made a progress in her retauration ?
I have no knowledge of a video taken during this race
I will do a bit of search on the net
I have also seen that you live in California
I have planned with 3 French friends to be for a week in the LA region for the next Porsche week
If you attend this manifestation please let me know I will be very happy to meet you

Yes, a very nice discussion took place about the Porsche Werkes Carrera GT at 1957 Reims on the Autodiva web site above. All those that contributed on Autodiva, including your French countrymen, are quite helpful, have many resources, and know very much about the history of vintage Motorsports. I appreciate them considerably.
I will be at the LAX Hilton for the Literature Meet on March 1st, and would enjoy meeting you and your friends. If I may ask - what is your name, and what name do you have on Autodiva?
Merci,
Michael Doyle

Merci...Gerard,
Yes - Jurgen and I believe this - the numbers "163648" at this time in 1957 were painted on the front nose of the car for when traveling into France for a "Carnet de Passage" issued by the German Customs office. Perhaps a temporary German registration number.
I also believe, from discussion on Autodiva, that the first 3 numbers "163" are for the "Saar" area - a southwestern part of Germany that may have been the entry point that Porsche Werkes used when crossing the border into France.

This Carrera discussion is off-topic, but here is a photo of GT no.48 and no.50 down the straightway at Reims (they had better lap times than the Spyders in 1956). And also of no. 48 in the pits for a driver change from Edgar Barth to Richard von Frankenberg.
On the front nose of each is the discussion about the numbers.
