    • 122-992 was sold by Porsche to Americo Nunes a Portugese pilot fan of Porsche cars
By mid 1964 Americo Nunes came to Stuttgart to buy a bright new 904 to replace his 356 Carrera
No 904 were available so a left Stuttgart with 122-992
He raced this car in local Portugese races and rallyes from 1964 to 1966
At first the car had still his original shape as seen on this pic

Unfortunately Americo Nunes who was a hard (or a bad ?) driver as it could be seen on what he did to his 356 in 1961

      • During the 1965 Cascais GP Americo Nunes crashed 122-92
Instead of sending the car back to Stuttgart to have it repaired correctly he decided to have it rebuilt and modernised in Portugal in order to make it look as the new 904 he was dreaming of
The result is the car shown on Vance pic

From my point of vue he faile to have it look like a 904 but I thinck he was close to the 1962 718 GTR entered by Porsche in the 1962 Targa Florio for Nino Vacarella who did a 3rd overall

122-991 is still to day property of the Porsche Stuttgart museum but I don't know if 122-992 is still to day in dr Julio Palmaz collection or back to Europe

                  • Regarding the red WRS coupe in an out of order post to this reply, think that the entrant could have been Scuderia
Serenissima(Count Volpi), but I do know that the car was still owned by the factory at that time.

                    • I would just like to say that the responses by Porschinelle represent the best of what this site offers: his historical knowledge and depth of research material is far better than a lone photo posting of a solitary Spyder without any attribution or identification. Kudos to you, sir.

                      • Hi Richard

Thank you for your so kind comments
                        You turn me red !
Regarding the 1962 Targa Florio none of the Porsche were directly entered by Porsche KG
The 356 Abarth Carrera GTL race number 42 and 44 + the red 718 GTR spyder race number 108 were entered by the Scuderia Serenissima Republic of Venezia
The 356 Abarth carrera rac number 50 was entered bt Paul Ernst Strahle for himself
The 7 but when you look at the pilots of tRSK race number 116 was entered by the Scuderia San Ambrosio
But when you look at the name of the pilots driving these cars :
Hans Hermann + Herbert Linge for the abarth 42
Edgard Barth + Antonio Pucci for the Abarth 44
Jo, Bonnier + Graham Hill + Nino Vacarella for the 718 GTR race number 108 I am nearly sure that the Porsche factory was using them as as we say in French "nom d'enprun" who may be translated litteraly by borrowed name
Porsche had many successes in the Targa Florio but if you look carefully to the drivers you will note that they had always added Italian pilots to their own factory pilots
This was a good way to satisfy their Italian clients

                        • Very pleased to note that the red 1959 Carrera GS-GT in the background of the photos posted in #...697 below is my former car, which I had restored by the Paterek Brothers, with engine by the late Bill Doyle (692/3). Now owned by the Ingram Collection, it finished fourth overall in the 1959 Tour de France, driven by Jean Kerguen, who also drove at Le Mans on numerous occasions. We won People's Choice and Judge's Choice with it at the 1990 Parade in Monterey.

i heard that Eric Douglas in Sweden now has 122-922 you would have to check with Andre's contact Dale Miller or Eric directly i am not privileged to speak to them.

I think this is at me? I whole heartedly agree with you Rickie, Gerards history lessons are wonderful and bring to life what would otherwise just be an old photo of a car. However, we all do what we can and working, raising three girls doesn't afford me the time to research as Gerard so expertly does. I've been reminded to give credit and detials when possible but I usually find most of these photos without any specific details. If I find an interesting one I think you guys would like I just pray that Gerard will fill in the blanks which he usually does. Thank god for you Gerard.
