Hi Jacques,
If you check out the info on page 14 of the Carrera book comments topic, I also show photos of the cars Moss drove in the '61 Targa and '61 Nurburgring. -044 in the Targa has the built in driving lights that were added for LeMans, and -041 in the Nurburgring does not. I also have copies of the factory Nurburgring setup sheets somewhere if you would like me to dig them out. As far as other possibilities there were only four cars with the narrow oil cooler opening, -041, -042, -043 and -044.
Alan (I used to own -041 many years ago).

Hi Alan thank you but i am not convinced since Sebring 25 Mar 61 the book shows 044 in the USA. Also the 1000k Nurburing 28 May 1961 shows 041 with Moss the pilot presumably the same car that he drove at the Targa. Maybe a "practice car" was the one actually entered in the 61 Targa and 041 was not available for the Targa in 61. The book does not show how 044 came into possession of Holbert subsequent to 61 Targa as postulated by the 2015 auction write up.

Plus, Stirling's car had a big yellow hand painted identifier ball painted (mostly) on the hood. I was able to tell Warren about the color after I unearthed a color pic in an old copy of the great Automobile Year annual. He promptly had a litho he had commissioned from Randy Owens revised to suit...

Hi Porschinelle
maybe you can help me with this.
718-044 an ex Warren Eads vehicle sold back in 2015 with the providence of it being the car that Sterling Moss was driving when it almost won the 1961 Targa Florio. Some of the web sites seem to confirm that. However the Carrera book shows in red 041 as the car and that 044 was being campaigned by Holbert in the Americas concurrently. Also both 041 and maybe 044 were said to be equipped with a 2.0 4 cylinder engine which taxed the gearbox is there any record of an engine no?
Merci Beaucoup
jacques
