  • and on to 550-0028...
One of the lost spyders, 0028 was first owned by Hans Stanek and known as the 'Swiss' Spyder due to its red and white body colour scheme. The car was crashed and rebuilt by Wendler. I have a long list of owners, but unknown where it resides today but it is belived to be still in Zurich.

    • I'm learning there are more unaccounted for than I originally thought. I was thinking there was maybe only one or two that were missing.
      Thanks again Andrew, great stuff!!

      • I think we see a lot of the same ones in the media, but there are still many squirrelled away in collections and parked containers...

550-0029 is no exception - destination unknown, but originally owned and raced by Troy McHenry on the West coast under #56. I have 3 owners since him, but do not know its current location.

        • This car is part of the "James Dean Curse" is it not?
Troy McHenry was running several components from the wreck of 055 in this car when he hit a tree and was killed in it.
          Thanks Andrew!

          • Correct Justin. McHenry was a Beverley Hills surgeon and bought the front and rear suspension parts of 550-0055 off his friend Dr William Eschrich who also salvaged the quad cam engine and transaxle. Joe Playan also got some of the remaining panels to repair his own race damaged 550.

On 26 Oct 1956 McHenry crashed into a tree at Pomona killing himself due to a malfunctioning steering arm - it is unknown if the suspension parts were fitted to his car at that point.

                • Today is the well promoted 550-0030 which is currently in the Brumos Collection. Although Steve does not believe it went to the Venezuela GP, it was piloted by Huschke von Hanstein.

                    • Only Porsche would do so much promotion of the first Porsche to travel by plane!

                          • Joseph Jeser attended this same Hyeres 12 hours race with another 550 with Annie Bousquet as co pilot
                            They were DNF (brakes failure)

                            • Question for Andrew
Is this car the same than the one that Annie drove at the Agadir GP ?
(Note the knock off wheels ?)
Another question for Andrew Gonzague Oliver raced the Spa 1000 kilometers race the 6th of June 1955 with this spyder

The race car #2 is highly likely to be 0027 as there were not many early customer build French blue spyders
