  • Michael---you may be correct.

We show 8-58 Ollon-Villars 550A-0125 with Heini Walter. That is the only '126' race other than 550-04.

Yes, could be Heini Walter - he was a very skilled driver from Switzerland. He won many races. This then could be '58 August at Ollon-Villars (Switzerland). They are known to wear those French caps there too!

Our European counterparts would be helpful to verify. Thanks Steve.

        • Wow! Thanks much! We are missing that race for Haas but will add. So, 550-04.

            Excellent...thanks JG.

And this June '57 race goes with the period helmets worn then by driver Carl Hass (sure looks like Behra's profile) - corresponds too with Steve and Andrew summarizing this Spyder is 550-04 and not having raced in Europe.

Interesting to see that many Caps...not Hats on the men in attendance - seems odd. Great resolution photos on this site. Thanks again.

Could be 126 as noted at Wilmont. Also, could be earlier as Haas drove 550-04 at least once with 126 at Lake Erie 1957.

              Steve,

Check this - you did note a possibility of Carl Hass at Lake Erie (Put-In Bay Island) Ohio a bit earlier.

              • Have you guys ever been to Put-In-Bay? What a great place for a race "back in the day".

                  • Today's spyder is 550-0026, which is the car you can blame for James Dean's death. Originally owned and raced by John Porter, it is the spyder JD lusted over and made him trade in his 356 for a 550. Once again the car was white and featured for the road test in the Feb 1957 issue of Road and Track, but today it is red and is a regular starter on US circuits today. Many people think it is a replica due to its speedster windscreen, but it is an original spyder screen

Agreed...in many ways, and for many reasons. The foremost being how much material facts, confirmed DNA data, and historical content this Book will offer - and the time and length of detail that Steve Heinrichs went to bring this remarkable achievement about with Rolf Springer and the Porsche Museum.

Ps: Order one Book for yourself, and one or two more for friends or family.

                        • Today is 550-0027 one of the Veiullet delivered spyders. Don't have much history on it except it was raced by Veiullet, but today it is still French blue in an European collection and is involved in quite a few European rally events
