  • Just found a slightly clearer photo with the oil cap on the MM car. The car today does not have it but they have included the 2 'gills' from the earlier body shape...

    • The back looks as wrong as on most of the fibreglass replicas.

        • re 21273----more later today:

550-015 did not get finished until 12 March 1955. (550-0031 and most of earlier finished by then). Although a collaboration of Porsche and Weinsburg----it was started by Weinsburg and finished by Porsche with mostly Wenlder stuff. Recall that Weinsburg was still making the frames for the 550s at this time.

          • re 21260:

Let me take this is two parts--

But---first---the relationship between Sonauto/Veuillet and Bousquet/Olivier is not completely clear. My take is that 550-07 is the "test car" that Ludwigsen refers to no 550-06. 550-06 was a show car before going to Hoffman.

            1) Annie's mother is recoded as to the car coming in and the date is not clear but I think ear;y 6-55 after 28/29 12 hours race in France. The "043" is 31.5.55. So, the "Wendler" body stuff came earlier.

            2) As to after the 1956 fatal accident---the car came back to Porsche, was repaired by Porsche and sold to Blendl.

            • re 21276

The list showing Sonauto getting the car shows export numbers. I agree---no need to put 07 on top of 043 as far as customs is concerned. It just reinforces that Porsche continued to consider the car as 550-07.

That she drove the long way back to Le Mans has been considered as a factor in the fatal accident as she may have been quite tired.

                    • Start Nr. 15 was on both 550-15 and 550-0047. The photo here is 550-0047 I believe.

Guys-----I asked Justin (thanks, Justin) to post the photo. It does not relate to Start 15.

Anyway----what it is is: 550-05 after "sale" to Fasanello by Stuck (recall he did not pay).

Note license number same as 550-05 publicity photos as well. This was likely February 1954.

                      • re 550-05 and 550-07:

Guys---I have gone over for years and years all of this stuff including commentary re 05 going back to Europe and Heins returning with different car or same car.

I now believe----thanks in large part to Andrew---that I am wrong on some race attribution, especially as to 07 looking like 05.

I expect to post final conclusions tomorrow and, happily, may actually get some more changes into the book.

Thanks to Andrew and others! The results are fascinating, I think.

Hey Gerd, correct Firefox doesn't mesh with the sites software for uploading photos. Glad you got it figured out. Thanks! Justin

Doesn't seem like there was much of the original car left.
