represent 550 011 driven by Hans Hermann/Helmut Polensky at the 1954 24 hours Le Mans race

If the 1954 Le Mans race ended with a DNF for Hans Hermann this young (26 years old pilot in 1954)had better results in 2 others 1954 major races, always at the wheel of Porsches
Early May 1954 Porsche KG entered for him 550 04 at the Italian Mille Miglia race
With team mate Herbert Linge they finish this race 6th overall and winner of the 1.5 L class
Hans Hermann gained a huge popularity during this race for having driven his car under a railway crossing barrier just before the train arrived

Race #351 was 550-08, not 04 which is the Museum 550

And to conclude this race 2 pics already pulished in this topic
The first one taken in Brescia after the race represent a small portion (Only one 550 was present but not less than 13 off 356 raced) of the Porsche team

the second one seems to have been taken in the Porsche plant soe days after the race (see several 356 parked in the background and the typical German surroundings)

George Keck in 550-0070 which he bought off John Hudson. He then sold it to JP Kunstle when he bought 550A-0104 off him which was a basket case, so he created his own RSKeck out of it.

If Hans Hermann 550 at the 1954 Mille Miglia race was 550 08 is it the same car than the one driven by Claude Storez (race number 44 seen here with Annie Bousquet) at the 1955 Agadir Gd Prix ?

Back to Hans Hermann
Hans Hermann (born in 192

started his career with his personnal Porsche 356A
He then started a professionnal pilot career
He drove for Borgward and Porsche
In 1954 and 1955 he became member of the Mercedes team up to the Le Mans accident in 1955 which decided Mercedes to stop
He then came back driving for Porsche and Borgward depending upon the company ready to pay for him
He also drove for Abarth in sport cars and made some trials for Maserati and BRM in the formula 1 races
In 1966 he came back definitely with Porsche and stayed with them until his retirement in 1970 at 42
He won Le Mans that year for Porsche
Afgter hid retirement he kept strong links with Porsche and was very frequently ask to drive Porsche museum cars in historical races
In 2008 for his 80 th anniversary he was invited by Porsche to drive a 550 A around the Nurburing
This was the object of the enclosed video which mix 2008 images and some flashback to the Le Mans 1954, Mille Miglia 1954 and the 1954 Carrera Panamericana race where he finish 3rd overall
