Just a nice medium length Karro bolt from either an engine block or transmission.

Didn't have a micrometer but as Jack said a 5/16 shank slips in nicely.

On how much flange to leave at the bottom? I start with about 3mm then trial fit the new skin flange and remove slivers as needed until I get the bottom gap I'm after. Door's looking great!

Multiple times on and off car. Glad these doors are light. Got a good fit now. And sanding.

Question for those that know. How far away from the edge of the threshold should I hold this inner frame back? I can tell this is too close and needs some grinding. Is there a rule of thumb? I have never replaced a door skin before. See pic below.

For me, without the front clip on I used a long rod of close diameter and slide it down through both hinges at once. But having an extra set of hands to hold the door and help get it off is even more of a help.

Mark, I found that a 356 crankcase perimeter bolt drops in and out very nicely with very little play. During my mock ups I'll drop that bolt in the bottom and push the top pin in just to where it would stay.(sometimes it would still fall out when I closed the door ) To reverse it I'd slip the bolt out first to allow some play then wiggle the top pin back out. try it, you might like it or you may not but this how I did my series of 100 door trials on the coupster.

Door repair is coming along nicely!

Mark you are killing it. Awesome job and skill. Keep the tips and photos coming. After I finish the battery box and vin panel doors are next for me so your step by step visuals are very much appreciated.

Yes, I am sure the door will go on and off the car a number of times before it is perfect. My gaps were near perfect before I started so I will want to be sure they are maintained.
