    Florian,

This is a nice thread, I really wish you all the best on this project. I had not seen those 1951 356 photos from Justin before or maybe I did a long time ago. That car just looks fabulous. As does the original one.

I also concur the performance of the early car's was good for the time when produced but lacking really on today's roads. I covered many miles in the passenger seat of my brothers 51 split screen still then with the VW gearbox in the 60's. It was fun but so much better when we put the really early 1952 full syncro box in it from our 52 pre-a.

There is no getting away from it the improvements made over the 356 years made the ' driving' more interesting. ( Though I still hanker after driving an original early pre-A )

Looks like Justins and others resto pages on here, will help you so much when you come to start on it. If you can follow them you will do it, some great metalwork and great methods of doing it.

    I will be watching

    Roy

                Wow Florian,
                Your new "showroom/werkstatt" looks nice
It will be a joy 4 U to work in.

Have you organized your machinery/tooling area?
Saw your inspiration photo on the wall as well.

It is not uncommen that Kardex has wrong on data on it
Usally some areas that are painted at factory wount be colored IF the 356 gets a respray....
                Good hunt and good luck

Now I see what you're up to; this car's ID numbers have been removed? So A process of elimination then.

This is Pascha Red (preA color)and looks very close to your Derby red sample. Pascha is a beautiful color if your leaning toward originality.

yes it was cut out and replaced with a 58 Vin Number when they did the roof and dash work. 85% of people say its a 1954 Car, doors and decklid have 57 stamped the door locked are dated 5/54 witch take about 4 to 8 weeks before there in a car. the list of vins are all the ones in 54 that end with 57.. so I'm getting there slowly
