Long ago on this thread, I offered some pictures of a '52 that came to me. It was devoid of most parts, so it was decided to become a '52-ish looking IRS, 5-speed, disc brake, big motor "sleeper."
It got a custom tunnel and narrowed inner longitudinals so power seats from a GT3 would fit....and a shortened 912 donor rear engine bay.
The shell was 'weak' to put it mildly. I got it to primer and a roller (with a Massive IV VW engine in it, but not running) and it suddenly had to be shipped to Australia....where I suppose it was finished. Maybe not. I never heard anything more, good or bad.
Anyway, I'll post 4 pictures and follow those with a few more.
been a while since my last update, I have been busy during my absence with other aspects of my build, justin that other project is still going! I have some progress with it and will probably post some pics but at the moment it's still hush hush lol
thanks Justin, i also obtained the vehicle details from porsche centre Brighton, i spoke to Paul in the parts and he sorted in the out and emailed me the details (apart from the engine number) the original colour is schiefer grey with red leatherette.
As to the "original" stamped number being grafted in, wouldn't that be better than a NOS or good repro front panel with the blank area stamped after the fact? Or......left blank?
With all the customization, can there be an intent to defraud? The key is backing everything with the proper legal paperwork if you are going to use the serial number of the base car that's been 'customized.'
Great work. My favorite words so far: "and I don't care." It's more than a 'restoration'....it's a 'personal expression.' I love it!
I'll have to find and post some photos of a stripped naked '52 shell that I did for an Aussie that had a 912 rear section grafted in the rear with IRS, gently and discreetly widened rear fenders and the adjustable front torsion bar tube section from a C grafted in. It kept it's original number and body shape/profile...and that's about all.
