    • Thank you for the information on the Dennenhaur. There are just so many Pre-A styling ques I would have sworn it to be a first cousin.

Just wonderful Gerard, the historical education you bring to this site is what mainly keeps me coming back.
      ~Vance

Ran across this really cool Outlaw Dennenhaur or maybe its something else?

but a recent tribute built between 2010/2011 by a former B.B.T. (a Belgium Company who are one of he largest VW and Porsche repro parts maker and distributor in the world) coachbuilder who is now running its own business
You were lucky finding pics of this car that I saw in real in 2011 during a visit I made with my friend Bruno in September 2011 at the BBT headquarter in Belgium

Paul Ernst finish again 2nd overall
From 1955 and onwards Paul Ernst Strahle no longer raced Dapferle except in November 1955 where this car was again entered into the Tour de Belgique
For me it was the last race
No pictures of both 1954 and 1955 Tour de Belgique
If somebody has one to post he is welcome

                        • So question for Henk
Are these 2 cars the same car ?
If so is it the real car or a simple reconstruction ?
What worry me is that the car displayed to day has many differences with the original car
Bumper at the back when Dapferle with the Porshe engine had no bumper

                            • I'll pick up the gauntlet. To start with, I don't know whether it is the original or not, but with 20 million (or more) Beetles built, a lot is possible. There are some sources I can investigate and the pictures provide a lot of detail.

Don't worry about the license plate. The original cannot be used on the road anymore, so a modern one needs to be used. I think that it is a nice detail to have selected this number which really points to the original owner.
For shows etc. using the old one is fine again.

                              • First: the chassis number I gave before, 1-075282, as a possible number for Dapferle appears to be an early 1948 number. Since it was a second-hand car, that is well possible. However, the recent Dapferle has those two ventilation inlets in the front sides. These were only used in 1951. The Schuco model you showed has them too, yet none of the original pictures show them. For me that is a strong indication that the body is not original. Since Beetles are not monocoques, it is easy to put a different body on an original chassis, so that is still possible. I would not know how to recognize a platform in the pictures available, so this requires a closer look at the actual car.
