    • By mid-June 1963 Robert Buchet and his friend Michel Gauvin enter 1006 in the Coupe des Alpes a race that Robert won some years ago with Claude Storez
Again it was an engine failure with a DNF

This time the engine did not fail but Robert performance (19th 6 laps behind the winning Ferrari) was not exciting
Several other Porsches attended this race including 2 new Carrera 2000 GTS/GT
122991 driven by Edgar Barth who finish 6th and 122992 driven by Herbert Linge who finish 12th
Herman Muller from Switzerland on 718 RS 61/076 finish at a good 4th place
Very poor documentation only a pic of the start

(this pic is wrongly identified as 1961 and Robert name wrongly spelled Bouchet as so it is possible to find uncorrect history on the net)
The tour Auto was the last race of Robert with 1006
At the Paris carshow Robert order a new 904 with which he raced in 1964 and 1965 but that is another story
A last pic of Robert with 1006 no idea where the pic was taken but it was a sunny place presumably Cannes in June at the start of the Coupe des Alpes

          • Before moving to another subject I have found interesting to summarize some of the infos found during this chapter building
As it may be seen on the 2 following pics taken in front of the Milano Carlo Abarth factory end 1959 or beginning 1960 the first car built (1001) was quite different of what most of the Abarth Carrera are to day
First the engine lid had very few louvers
Secondly the nose of the car is much more agressive than to day with no additionnal lights

As you all remember the first trials at the Stuttgart plant show that the engine cooling was very defficient hence the multiple louvers

                • If you have read the Robert Buchet Story you will remember that Robert Buchet had a serious accident with this car during the 1962 Tour Auto leading severalo pseudo historians to decdrete that this car was completely destroyed in fact the real story is as follows as per the following document

                  • As the document is in French I will translate it for those interested
As you know the Tour Auto is a 5 days + race all over France where the competitors have to cover from 3500 to 4000 km on small roads at a quite low average speed
Each day races on race tracks and/or "specials on closed roads" to classify cars
So in fact it was the second day of the 1962 edition
Cars were racing on the Le Mans race track
Buchet was sharing 1002 wheel with the Swiss Heinz Schiller but was driving for this race
Another Swiss guy Edgar Berney at the wheel of a 250 SWB Ferrari who was racing in the same race, push 1002 out of the track
Buchet was safe but 1002 severly damaged but far from being destroyed
After the accident the car was repared by a French specialist and sold in France
Buchet bought then 1006 (ex-Pierre Marx) by end 1962

                      • When not on the road the car may be seen in a museum in the east of France with soe of the other cars of the same owner

                        • To day 1019 story
As per the Registry statement this car was either lost or in the hands of the same owner since 1962
Another story was that 1019 was used to repare 1002
In fact the true story is as follows
1019 bought new in 1961 by a German guy named Brockhaus wh raced it

last pic taken at the Chamrousse hill climb race in 1963, therefore presumably Brockhaus sold 1019 by the end of 1963 when the Abarth Carrera started to be uncompetitive to a French who kept it until 2000
1019 was offered for sale at the 2012 Retromobile carshow

                            • Another interesting history is 1009
1009 is the only of the 20 Abarth Carrera built to have been bought new in 1961 by a French Pierre Monneret
Pierre Monneret (1931/2010) is the son of Georges Monneret a famous French motorbyke pilot who won 499 races and beat 183 World speed records
Pierre on the contrary of his brother Philippe who was also a great pilot did some motorbykes races (with 4 win in the motorbyke wold championship and a 4th in the 1956 world championship) but stop quickly (when he was 25 years old) racing to manage his father business of course in the motorbyke distribution
Fanatic of mechanical sport he did some race in amateur
In 1961 he was Robert Buchet co pilot on Robert 1002 at the 24 Heures du Mans
