So to day 1951
Everything started at the October 1950 Paris car motorshow
Porsche was having a stand at this exhibition for the first time
Ferdinand Porsche himself was on the stand
He met on the stand Auguste Veuillet who had just been appointed exclusive Porsche distributor for France via his company Sonauto
Auguste Veuillet explained him that to the best way to have the Porsche name recognized in France will be to enter cars in the 1951 edition of the 24 hours Le Mans race
This suggestion was accepted by Ferdinand Porsche and the decision was taken to built eleven race cars starting from the Aluminium Gmund 356 who had not been assembled
These cars took the name of 356 Gmund GT

Three cars were ready for the Le Mans race in June 1951
By those days race cars were travelling on normal roads to go from the Porsche plant to the place of the race
One of the 3 cars was destroyed by a Porsche mecanic on a German motorway
The 2 cars left got number 46 for the 356/2-063 driven by Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche and 47 for the car 356/02-054 driven by Rudolph Sauerwein/Robert Brunet
