I enjoyed seeing your photos taken 51 years apart. It reminds me of when, in 2000, we found the house I lived in during 1949-51 in Munich. The owner, a US trained physician, gave us a tour to boot!

      Really neat pictures Roy!
To be able to have a picture of your car from that long ago is unique!
Plus to have a current picture of that back ground to see how things have changed is truly remarkable.
      Thanks for sharing.
      Cheers,
      Dick

        Justin,

Northampton is around 150 miles away from where I lived when I bought my car in the sixties. I must say the original photo was only about 3" x 2" in size. I enlarged so I could see the large brick ' tower ' in the background of photo. I then thought where do most people photograph their cars and thought it must be outside their house. That was not the case here, I located the house my cars previous owner lived in and that was on a main road. So it could have been anywhere in the UK.
My next step was DDK and my tip about the tall tower. One guy said he knew the road the owner had lived in and then someone found the tower and then the back road behind his house where he took the photo.

Below the photo of the 'tower' as it is today and a letter from the owner and his indication of trading my 356A in to AFN the main Porsche dealer for a 356C.

For you info, the importer of my car in May 1959 was J H Bartlett a pre-war race driver. He had a famous garage running from the 1920's to the 1960's. He sold only high class sports cars and he registered my car on the 22nd May 1959 and it stayed with him for only six months. I do not know if AFN ordered it as the main agent and delivered it to him or if he bought it direct. Soon might find out as a book is being written on all RHD 356 cars delivered into the UK.

A year or so ago this advert was found in a very old magazine it details some the 356 cars up for sale including a carrera all on JR Bartlett's forecourt.

          Sorry Guys,

Forgot to put on the letter from the owner of my car in 1971. Also an even better view of where by car was placed for the photo. This 'google street view' is so good.

Thank you Roy! So neat that you kept that letter all this time, great historical details. I wish I could go back that early on my car... A recreation photo would be make for a nice addition! Those trees have been there along time!

Nice photo of the garage forecourt. I wonder if any of those 356 cars are still on the road, guessing the photo is around 1965.
