Justin, That's me in the lower photo. Brand new 2Lt stationed at Fort Carson. The upper photo is of Carl Fellhauer putting skis on my 356 prior to making our way back to Colorado Springs. I sold the 356 in 1971 in Walnut Creek and have been looking for it for 30 years.

Thanks Roy for the post and the encouragement. For me, I, unfortunately, didn't retain any records of my car so I don't have the VIN. I wrote the State of California twice with the old license number but never heard back. Then I contacted my insurance company to see if they had records but they have them back only to 1991. With the VIN I could have a better chance at locating it so I'm stymied at this point. I plastered the photo on the Registry site and several Craigslist sites in California too but to no avail. Such is life.

That's a shame Bob and will probably forever remain a mystery then. Unlike I am sure it is now with computers, carfax etc. The state of California up until the 1990's (for certain) would purge their DMV records every 10 or so (can't remember the exact amount of years in the cycle) So any car's early registration history prior to each of these cycles would be wiped clean from their records. I went through this in the early 90's with my car. There was no record of it so to go through the lien sale process to get title to it. If you had the VIN of course your in business but the state would certainly not have those records going back that far.

To continue JG post a long time ago European Policemen were very lucky guys
356 were used by several countries as police cars
Of course Germany as seen above and now
