I have learned the story behind these 2 pics through Jacques Mertens that I warmly thanks for his help
For those who don't know him Jacques Mertens is a Belgian journalist who has succeed to buy back Gilberte Thirion car and is in the course to restaure this car
He has created a dedicated site to this car and commitently to Gilberte Thirion he met before she died in 2008, under the reference : porsche356sl.com
He is also the author of the book : the last eleven in cooperation with Phill Carney that I warmly recommend you to buy

                                Hi Pat
The above pic was taken somewhere in the Italian Alps in 1955 during the Liege (Belgium) Rome (Italy) Liege race

The car in front of the 356 is a Salmson 2.3 GT car
Salmson was a French industrial company who built cars from 1919 to 1960 and planes engines together with industrial pumps
Herewith another pic of thar car during that same race
