That new word is wonderful. One might even say it is Libertytarian

    • Wonderful observation and writing about the little ditty --- shows a mind-wash example how the current Registry Leadership treats what they would call "Their School of Fish" ...also known as "Magazine subscribers".

      • Some sites would not allow this kind of Fun With Words and have a Moderator edit or delete such wandering, but since Justin is allowing this 'creativity' I suppose it would be best to self-moderate to preserve this freedom....or does that sound ...uh, 'fishy'?

While we are clearing things up....is a Libertytarian similar to a Trustifarian? Ahhh, just IGNORE that question.

          • When you cannot defend your position because it's indefensible or one hasn't bothered to do his homework, always disparage those who present the facts that you can't refute, or at least find fault with their style of communication. Attempting to change the subject won't make it disappear or find resolution.

Just to be clear Mr Jager, are your comments directed to Mr SJ Szabo ?

              Regards, Mike Ruddy.

              • Mike,
Please let us all know what portion of SJ's comments fit any of the descriptors I used. I can assure you, a simple cut and paste of your
                observations will fill the bill.

                  • Do you know something Mike, I always read this particular thread because it nearly always brightens my day. I really like the comments by SJ and like Jack and Bruce the last one based on the word 'pompous' really made me grin even though my heavy metal double garage door had a lock failure and I could find no way of getting in to my 356. With the kind help of my Mustang car friend along the road we managed it with his tools. A rule not to forget, always place a small selection of tools elsewhere than all in the garage. I love tools as I have mentioned before, but they are useless in a garage door you cannot lift. Look today to see how you can get in if the door fails to lift!

Anyway to continue, my first move years ago when I put on the PC was to look on the registry pages, bit like seeing an old friend. Then this situation happened when I would need to buy magazines to enable to post. Then it became possible to lurk on there and remain silent to those who read the mag and belong. Now I find I look on rarely now. The fun actually was responding to people, without that, its a bit pointless. If only they had just arrived at the situation of saying pay for example $15- a year for this privalage I would not have objected.

But Mike we have Justins ABCGT, DDK, and The Samba its really enough for me. Now, did all that send you off to sleep?

                    • For Mike, et al;

I like Mr. Szabo's creative writing, a style of wit in writing I wish I possessed. Sometime laborious, as often are my own attempts, but even if I do not 100% whole-heartedly agree with every thought, I always enjoy his 'style.'

With much personal experience with his 356, I often wish S. J. would write about something in addition to the Registry woes. I think we ALL should add to Justin's site with great stories, good writing, calm meaningful discussions of whatever means most to us and relate great experiences with our 356s.

I am also aware that as with every post made anywhere.....it's my own choice to participate or delete. Fun is where each of us finds it and never will or should we think as one.

                      • I like Mr Szabo's writing style too, a guy has to have a hobby after all but here's the thing, after 116 pages, I've started to question the efficacy of his prose.

What has become the point... other than to have fun of course.

The Registry, it seems, has very nearly 7000 happy magazine reading members an and incumbent board that are going nowhere in a hurry.

Potshotting over the parapet at the odd Registry post here and there is going to get you... where exactly ?

All it does is draw a deeper line in the sand.

Keeping the channels of communication open is a laudable initiative but then Mr Gaeta calls over to parlez and he's beaten back with a big stick and probably won't be calling by again any time soon.

                        Result.

It seems to me That the dissenters in this situation have a couple of avenues open to them. Firstly they can win over the electorate and mutiny or secondly, break away completely and reinvent the club as a whole new entity.. A brand new club !

Eloquently flogging a dead neddy might be entertaining... indeed fun for some but what's the point, what is your end game Mr Szabo ?

What would you like to happen ?

We can also do what we have been doing all along, supporting Steve
Heinrichs in his quest to get the club in compliance with the laws that govern it. Like Mr. Gaeta, you ask ' what do you want out of it ', as if anyone who has been following this for the last week, much less the last few years, doesn't know perfectly well unless illiterate or willfully blind. As to how long the trustees and their subscribers will not be going anywhere, that remains to be seen, but if the court's rulings thus far are an indicator, there will be changes coming their way. You might also note the cosmetic changes by the club in response to the pressure applied. With a bit of luck, those changes will be far more than cosmetic in the not so distant future. SJ, Bruce, Bill and others may have a different take, and I'm sure they'll inform you if they feel a response is worth their effort. It's certainly made me as tired as SJ's prose seems to make you. One other thing of note: If you're paying attention, you'll note that most posts by the 'protesters' here, are responses to those who either here, or on the R site, posit BS that doesn't pass the smell test. For those of you who don't want to be involved in this aspect of things, no one is forcing you to observe, comment or in any way participate in the discussion, yet here you are.

No one can resist looking at a train wreck, no matter what the cause or the outcome.

                            • Right on there Jack, but posting isn't 'observing'. When someone decides to step in, step with facts, not innuendo or nonsense, or expect to be given a response at the level of the contribution.

By your definition, observing, commenting, and participating in any way, DOES show that a person has a desire to be involved, at some level, whatever thy feel comfortable with. It has become apparent to me that certain folks on this forum/web site/ venue, have little tolerance for those that do not have the exact same vision for a "perfect" car club. As an example, a forum member here recently suggested that his vision was to do without the Registry magazine for a period of time to get rid of the folks that want to mostly enjoy their 356 experience with just a magazine. That, to me, seems exclusive. I want a group that INCLUDES ALL interests in 356. A couple of decades ago a 356 club member, Mike Nelson, asked me if I would like to attend the club's fall festival in Yosemite. I asked him if any person could attend and he told me point blank "It's for anyone that's even remotely interested in 356". I believe in that. I would like to invite anyone that agrees with any part of this post to click on the "THANK YOU" button below this post or + Karma. It may be interesting to see how many 356'ers respond. If you don't like what I have said, give me the "Bad Karma" hit. My current Karma is 30Thanks everyone for your passion 356 wize
