As for the treatment of Bill Block, one of the hobby's truly nice guys all I can say to those who banished him: Shame, Shame. Finally, Mr. Dunn, have you no sense of decency?

Porsche 356 Registry Litigation: Update?

Steve, thank you for your reponse. I am still a bit unclear as to the status of non-profit club membership information availability. My understanding is that, although not part of the original suit, membership info was requested (during discovery?) and eventually supplied to your legal council. It appears that the court gave you the right to examine it, which you magnanimously declined for your own reasons. My question is: Has the court ruled that any member with a reasonable request is entitled to this information? Does their ruling apply to other clubs in general? I am not attempting to place blame on anyone or entity. I have no dog in this fight. Just trying to understand how the laws/courts work regarding this type of information.

Mr.Staggs:
Realize it or not, every member of the Registry has a dog in this fight. And not just because the Lawsuit was brought on behalf of the entire membership.
Keep in mind that all the Court has done (and will do) is to affirm the provisions of State of Ohio regulations that require every non-profit to provide the organization's books and records, including member lists, to any Member making a reasonable request for same. The regulations for most States share this provision, intended to assure openness and transparency in the operation of non-profits.
While I cannot speak for Mr.Heinrichs, were I he, I would want the Membership list as a means of assured direct communication to those Members. After all, the ten members of the Ruling Circle have demonstrated time and time again, that They cannot be trusted to provide, or otherwise disseminate, a true and clear account of the hows and whys of the way the Club is run. Sad but true.
After all, there is a very good reason that the Ruling Circle have used every means at Their disposal, to discourage/prohibit discourse among the Members on the website about the affairs of the Club. It is the same reason that led to some Members to be frequently banished from the forum and/or expelled from the Club. And it is the same reason that all "questions" about Club affairs are only entertained on a one-on-one basis.
So, if one had to sue the Club Leadership to force compliance with State regulations, wouldn't it be logical (and smart) to make sure one had a tamper-proof means by which to communicate the suit's outcome to the very Members in whose name one brought the suit?
Finally, you should realize that despite the innuendo to the contrary, there is no car info involved with a Membership List; it is contact info only. Any other assertions are simple fear-mongering.
Of course, if one is ashamed of belonging to the Registry (and these days, that is not a far-fetched scenario), then one should subscribe to the magazine under an assumed name.----------

Mr.Staggs:
Sorry if I insulted you about membership.
As for the "lecture", you might consider that even tho you are not interested in the comments, others (who might even be Members) who have questions similar to yours, might be.
Or are you the only one that counts...----------

OK, guys, cool it...we do NOT want to get like some were in the days we were on the R-forum. There are some still there now along with a bunch of newbies asking questions and having assumptions. "Same old, same old."
A reminder, not lecture; we self-police for Justin's sake and our own reputations. Email (posting) can be a VERY difficult medium with which to be clear in meaning, leading to mistakes in filtering by readers. FACTS are always the safest things to post.
Jack, I did not realize that you were never a member of the R-club. Here I am, getting caught in another faux pas....."assuming." Factually, I have become just a 'subscriber' since I realized I was being treated like a mushroom.
It is good to rally 'round the thought that whether we have interest in a 'club,' magazine or website, we are here, there or anywhere... first about the cars we seem to like maybe a little too much....

That should never be at risk. If there is a regulating entity that catches a misstep in meeting state or federal rules and guidelines (and laws), there could be consequences that could have been avoided if all the 'i' and 't' dots and crosses had been made more carefully.
Questions concerning this subject and suggestions made to this end were rebuffed for some reason by the governing body and thus the 'fight.' Not at all about dogs, just little old funny-looking furrin' cars.

What is this about a "Poison Pill" provided to the Editor, Maltby? This is the first I have heard of this, but that may be because I have been lurking in the background, and not following this regularly.
Can someone provide the factual details behind this?
Thx

Tom,
Not an attorney but the scenario is, to my knowledge, roughly this:
The publisher (also a club member and trustee for life) has been granted a
3 year contract to publish the magazine, which uses up the vast majority of
the club's funding. That contract automatically renews every 3 years. A fund is set aside to cover future publishing costs, not sure of the amount, but it isn't lunch money. That money accrues to the publisher should the club go belly up.
Think that covers it roughly. If my understanding of the issue is in error, I would invite Mr. Maltby or one of the trustees to provide enlightenment. Copies of all the contracts they have made on behalf of the rest of the members should be made available to those members on their website, but I believe they claim that 'confidentiality' bars those who are bound by their contracts, and pay for them from knowing the contents.
Hope this helps.
Best
Joel
