Two weeks after his victory at the Berlin Avus Gd Prix, Jean Behra fly to the US to attend the 1st formula one GD Prix organised by Ocober 5th on the Riverside race way built in 1957
In ouverture of this Gd Prix who was not counting for the World Championship a race for Sport cars called Riverside 200 miles was also organised
Many 356 and 550 spyders were entered by independant US pilots, but Jean Behra was the only Porsche factory pilot at the wheel of 718 RSK 003
He finish 4th overall behind much larger sport cars as the 5 liter Scarab driven by Chuck Daigh who won
Dan Gurney was 2nd with a Ferrari 375 and Bill Krauss type D Jaguar
Riverside was the last sport cars race for Jean Behra with Porsche for 1958
In addition to the 18 races he did in 1958 for Porsche in the Sport Cars division, he compete in around 10 off Formula 1 Gd Prix on an English BRM
This car was veryn fragile and Behra was very sedomnly at the arrival
His best places was a 3rd at the Nederlands formula 1 gd Prix
Thanks to his very good 1958 year with Porsche, end 1958, Enzo Ferrari asked Jean to join his formula 1 team with the interdicition to compete for another car manufacturer even Porsche
This interdicition lead Jean to develop his own formula 2 race car based on a RSK chassis car he never drove himself
I made some months ago a topic on this side of Jean life on this forum until his death on the Avus ring August 1st 1959 at the wheel of a Porsche after he had been sacked by Ferrari for a di
spute with Romolo Tavoni the Ferrari chief engineer
Regarding Porschinelle's colour photo at post #22333, I believe this is Heini Walter in a RS60 at an event much later than 1958. The rear motor cover/headrest seems to indicate an RS-60 Spyder and the driver doesn't look like Edgar Barth. I could be mistaken as the image is quite dark.
