Porsche used 3-4 different bucks to build their 550s with. Some had the flat spot on the back and some were more rounded. 550-0040 is a very well documented race car raced by Ernst Vogel, unfortunately I do not have too many photos of it in the 50s to show the rear, but it might actually be close to the original
re the photo comparison of today's 550-0040 to the Annie B. car---recall that the Annie B. car while 550-07 as far as Porsche was concerned---this is the 550-0043 body/chassis.
Thanks Andrew, Okay now I can see it; the clamshell fender profile is a bit too swoopy and the tail lights are also too low. Though its not factory correct their "new" shape does not offend me.
Great photo Gerd! Looks like you had a very enjoyable evening!
Congratulations on the book finally being released Steve and to very positive reviews so far! I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a copy!
The Carrera book does not take any position as to car ownership per se.
That said and notwithstanding the likely ownership all along by AV....it is also true that Annie's mother's name is on the list of cars brought in for service//work...and Annie B. is noted as the person re the 550-0043 chassis/frame.
On with the show... 550-0019. Owned now by the same collector as 550-06, it was owned and raced by Ed Crawford. In its racing years it did have some modifications done to the body...
